THE FACTS
Birmingham Senior Cup
Round One
Sutton Coldfield Town FC v Tividale FC
Tuesday 22nd October 2019
Kick off at 7:45pm
We are back on the road for our return to the Birmingham Senior Cup. It was great to get to the final of the Midweek Floodlight Cup last season but no disrespect this is the competition you want to be in. With a chance of playing any one of our Premiership, Championship or League One neighbours.
It was great to see the lads bounce back from the disappointment against Romulus with a stunning performance against Coventry United on Saturday. When with a depleted squad we took the lead with 3 minutes to go. But was pegged back in injury time. It may have felt like 2 points dropped at the end but we would have took the point at 3pm and on the balance of play it was a fair result.
Sutton have not had the greatest of starts this season and are sitting in the bottom two of the NPL South East Division but they have only played 7 league games and have up to 6 games in hand with the teams around them at the moment so expect a rapid rise up the table. They was involved in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Loughborough Dynamo at the weekend. So this has the ingredients to be a cracker
THE HISTORY
We faced Sutton 3 times in the 2014-2015 season, our first in the NPL. The first meeting was at The Beeches in the 2nd round of the Walsall Senior Cup when goals from Nigel Penney and Jordan Archer put us 2-0 up in the first 8 minutes. Mykel Beckley pulled one back for the visitors but Tividale held on for the win. The first league meeting was on Boxing Day 2014. In Sutton played in a snow blizzard. Sutton went a goal ahead 7 minutes into the second half when Justin Richards converted a penalty. Leigh Downing brought Tividale level and further goals from Jordan Archer and another from Downing ensured Tividale’s 3-1 win.
The return fixture was played on a beautiful Easter Bank Holiday and the points were shared. Another Justin Richards penalty on the stroke of half time gave Sutton the lead and even though Archer equalised for Tividale. They felt they should have won it but Zac Foster had a penalty saved by Sutton keeper Lee Evans.
The next time we met was in last seasons Walsall Senior Cup 2nd Round at The Beeches and Sutton came away with a 3-0 win. James Mutton gave the visitors a 1-0 half time lead. Alex Moore and Francis Amartey added second half goals to round off the scoring.
