Stone Cold Alleynians

Sometimes you must just take performances like this on the chin. Admit things are not going great, get back on the training ground and try and put it right.

Once again Boss Dave King had to make changes to the previous away fixture. In came the fit again Niall Maher for Peter Hawk. With Brad Welding, Cameron Milne, and Luke Carter all unavailable and Adam Garmson suspended. Jason Wood came in for his debut along with Ethan Muckley, Curtis Cocking and Elliott Hartley returning from suspension. With the number of players out, coach TJ Munthali came in for his third start in a row.

There was little goalmouth action in the opening minutes, and it was the 10th minute when Tividale’s Wood fired over the bar. Stone went ahead in bizarre fashion when Maher seemed to have a ball across the box covered but he only managed to push it against the post and Luke Askey was first to react prodding the ball home via Maher’s arm.

The game then went into a lull with both sides cancelling each out and the game turning into a midfield battle. Until the 38th minute when Dan Bryson lofted a long ball behind the Stone Defence and Hartley headed over the advancing Stone keeper, Adam Alcock to level the scores. Stone were denied a second when a Dave Ablewhite free kick was blocked by the Tividale wall it came back to him and he fired home, but it was ruled offside

Half time: Stone Old Alleynians 1-1 Tividale

The game was still any bodies as both teams pressed for an advantage but the only effort on target in this period was a Maher save to deny Matt Thomas. Stone went ahead on 50 minutes when a deep cross was slammed back across Maher and in by right back Sam Bradbury.

In a game of robust challenges from both sides. How the out of control two footed tackle from behind on Hartley in the 56th minute only warranted a yellow card. Only the lenient referee can tell us.

Stone were the more threatening of the two sides and were denied a couple of goals by the offside flag. But with the lead only a goal Tividale were still in it but they just could not find that final pass to create a scoring chance.

It was Stone who got the third and vital goal in the 80th minutes when Ablewhite latched onto a neat pass and slotted the ball past Maher. Stone rounded off the scoring in the 85th minutes with a fourth against a by now well beaten Tividale when from a free kick, Ablewhite headed home.

This was a chastening defeat for Tividale and after the game the squad as a man admitted that our last two performances have not been up to the standard that they set themselves as individuals, or a squad and it is something they are determined to sort and put right together.

Not at the Races

If there is one thing that is consistent about Tividale. It is their inconsistency and today’s performance about summed that up. There was no question about their effort and commitment, but it was if we played all night, we were never going to score games.

Once again due to unavailability (Curtis Cocking), injuries (Ethan Muckley) and suspension (Elliott Hartley), Manager Dave King had to make a number of changes. With Brad Welding, Dan Bryson, and Cameron Milne all available after missing last week’s game.

Things were made worse with Lewis McPike breaking down in the warm up. So, another change had to be made and coach TJ Munthali had to be brought in to make a second appearance of the season.

The home side settled the quickest and soon had Tividale on the back foot with Romario Martin testing Tividale keeper Peter Hawk with a deflected shot in the third minute. Then a minute later he fired over the bar. On 7 minutes Miracle Okafor whipped a vicious ball across the face of Hawk’s goal but no Racer could get a touch to it.

The next bit of serious goalmouth action was 25 minutes later when Eli Bako fired across the Tividale goal. Tividale’s first attempt on goal came in the 38th minute when a Welding free kick cleared the bar.

Half Time: – Racing Club Warwick 0-0 Tividale

The second period started with again Racers doing the pressing and a minute into it Bako had an effort that Hawk collected comfortably. Tividale’s best move of the game came in the 53rd minute when some great link up play between Garmson, Greer and Bustin ended with a Bustin strike that Racers keeper Lew Walker pushed around his post for a corner.

Racers full back Joshua Parsons was then allowed to run to the edge of the Tividale box in the 55th minute and shoot. But again, Hawk was equal to his strike and gathered comfortably. On the hour Tividale had a great chance to break the deadlock. Racing Club failed to get any distance in clearing a Milne free kick. Matt Hunt recovered the ball and played in Garmson who fired just over the bar.

On 62 minutes the deadlock was broken. This time the visitors failed to clear their lines and Bako’s shot from the edge of the area took a deflection that left Hawk completely stranded and the keeper could only watch the ball go into his net. They could have been 2-0 up two minutes later when a under hit Tom Hurdman pass back was hurriedly cleared by Hawk. It fell to Martin, but he shot over the bar. Bustin then had an effort although on target lacked any power and Walker gathered.

Hawk had to be at his best to get too another Bako effort and parry it away and he needed Bryson to complete the clearance. Hawk then pulled off a stunner of a save in the 69th minute to deny Martin. He then made a double save to deny substitute Scott Hammond and the rebound from Martin in the 82nd minute as the Racers pressed for a second. With 5 minutes to go Racer’s Costellis Lautaru found space in the Tividale area, but he could not hit the target with his resulting shot.

At the end things got from bad to worse for Tividale when for the second time in 2 weeks a Tividale player received a second yellow card deep into injury time. This week it was Garmson who picked up the two yellows and will sit out a one game ban.

Greer at the Double

It has been said many times before that this squad of players show their true worth when the chip’s are down and they have to dig in. These are the times when every player steps up to be counted.

Our absolutely mad run of injuries got worse in mid-week with Hayden Reeves (fractured ankle), Niall Maher (hamstring strain), Cameron Milne (covid isolation) joining Dan Smith, Brad Welding and Jason Wood on the treatment bench. Then on the eve of the game, due to work work commitments Dan Bryson was made unavailable. In came Peter Hawk, Lewis McPike, the re-signed Adam Garmson and a first start for about 2 years for first team coach TJ Munthali

Due to the torrential rain in the previous 24 hours, at 10 am the game being on was doubtful at best but by the time of the noon inspection and with the sun shining and no more rain forecast for the day, referee Jack Shepherd was quite happy for the game to go ahead on the proviso that if there was any more rain. He may have to abandon it. So, it was going to be a tough slog on a pitch heavy in parts

The shower just before kick-off was ominous but it was just a brief one and, on the day, we celebrated the short life of Tividale’s Princess Maddy Box-Poole, what it produced was amazing. As we were in the middle of the minutes applause the most beautiful rainbow appeared above the ground. Maddy’s way of showing she is still with us and she will never be forgotten.

The start of thge game produced a spell of Boldmere pressure in which they forced a couple of corners. But it was Tividale that took the lead in the fifth minute. Under no pressure Boldmere keeper Dan Crane’s clearance landed at the feet of Tividale forward Eshan Greer on the edge of the box and he hit a powerful strike that although Crane got a hand to, he could not stop it going into the net. Tividale could have immediately doubled their lead with two McPike chances. The first was a one on one with Crane that the keepewr did well to save the shot. Then he fired over the bar.

With the visitors now exerting pressure on the Tividale defence Boldmere’s Reece Leek’s header on 14 minutes from a Robbie Thompson-Brown corner went straight into the midriff of Hawk in the Tividale goal, when a yard either side of the keeper and it may have been the equaliser. Then an Alex McSkeane shot went the wrong side of Hawk’s far post although he looked well offside when he received the ball in the build up. On 22 minutes a Boldmere free kick was headed down by Boldmere defender Pedro Lima for Stephen Palmer, but his shot was deflected wide for another corner and a 31st minute Thompson-Brown free kick again failed to cause Hawk any concern. By this time McPike had limped off to be replaced by debutee Ethan Muckley.

Tividale did show glimpse of an attacking intent when a Luke Carter pile driver on 32 minutes was deflected for a corner. And in first half stoppage time Carter had a golden chance to double Tividale’s lead. Muckley was brought down by Lima in the area and Carter’s spot kick was placed into the bottom left hand corner but Crane guessed correctly and palmed it away at full stretch. With Hartley unable to hit the target with the rebound.

Half Time: – Tividale 1-0 Boldmere St Michaels

Second period and Boldmere were immediately pressing Tividale back in search of the equaliser and it was down to some tremendous defending to keep the visitors out. Their best chance came in the 55th minute when a McSkeane effort was well held by Hawk. A Muckley break in the 56th minute left his marker for dead and he reached the bye line before pulling the ball back for Greer whose shot was blocked. The rebound came back to Muckley but the angle by now was too acute, and he placed his shot wide.

Three minutes later and Boldmere got the equaliser they possibly deserved. TJ Munthali mistimed his challenge on McSkeane in the penalty area and Thompson-Brown’s spot kick into the bottom corner just evaded Hawk. A massive chance for Boldmere to turn the game on its head on 61 minutes when a Joseph Daley header just clears the bar.

On 64 minutes came a piece of magic. A spell of Tividale pressure and the ball is cleared by Boldmere to the edge of their box. Greer controls it on his chest and then hits a dipping volley over Crane and into the back of the net. Quote Black Country Radio. “It was a thing of beauty” The home side could have wrapped it up a couple of minutes later when Hartley got behind the Boldmere defence but was denied brilliantly by Crane. Then Muckley’ s turn of pace left him one on one with Crane but again the keeper denied him.

Going into the last 15 minutes and Boldmere were again on top. Thompson-Brown shot wide and then Harry Craven headed a corner wide. Carter came to the rescue with a last-ditch challenge just before McSkeane pulled the trigger. There then followed some terrific defending as the game moved into injury time.

With 4 minutes of injury time played. The chances of Tividale holding on for the three points got a lot harder as Hartley was dismissed after being shown his second yellow card. Both for mistimed challenges. From the resulting free kick Hawk somehow got a finger tip to the ball and turned it around the post. Then two minutes later in what was to be the last piece of action and Hawk again denies Boldmere. This time turning a cross that came dangerously to creeping under the cross bar over and behind for a corner.

Lichfield City vs Tividale

Lichfield City 4-0 Tividale

Lashed at Lichfield

Sometimes in life you must put your hand up and accept that the better man, woman, or team were better on the day, and it just was not your time. This unfortunately for us was one of those days.

It was our first ever visit to Lichfield’s Trade Tyre Community Stadium and manager Dave King unsurprisingly started with the same eleven that played the whole game in the win against Worcester City a week ago.

In a very low-key start in which neither team created a decent opportunity. Tividale’s had the only chance of the opening period when in the third minute when Elliott Hartley fired over the bar. Tividale’s keeper Niall Maher produced the first save of the game when he parried and collected a Jack Edwards shot. Hartley then forced a save out City keeper James Beeson when he cashed in on a City unforced error but his shot lacked the power to trouble Beeson.

In the 26th minute the impressive Luke Childs showed a superb piece of technical ability when he brought down a max Kyle Patterson pass with the outside of his boot cut inside and curled a left shot just wide of Maher’s post. Edwards then nearly cashed in on a poor Tividale clearance, but he dragged his shot wide. On 28 minutes Tividale should have gone ahead when after a goalmouth scramble in the Lichfield 6-yard box. The visitors did everything bar put the ball in the back of the net and eventually Eshan Greer put the ball over the bar. On 31 minutes a Max Dixon shot was well saved by Maher and a minute later Jamie Elkes headed a Joe Haines cross wide of Maher’s post as the home side ramped up the pressure.

In the 36th minutes Lichfield were rewarded for their pressure Edwards controlled a Haines cross and steered the ball past Maher and into the back of the net. Lichfield doubled their lead on 40 minutes when decent work from Patterson to keep the ball in play he found Edwards who attacked the Tividale box and again gave Maher no chance with the finish at his near post.

Tividale ended the half with another great chance when Hartley broke down the right left Haines for dead side-stepped central defender Leighton McMenemy, laid the ball into Bustin but Beeson saved.

Half Time: – Lichfield City 2-0 Tividale

Tividale showed more of a sense of urgency at the beginning of the second half and you felt that if the visitors got the next goal, it could be game on but if it came from the home side then they would run away with it. But they found Beeson in no mood to give up his clean sheet and at the other end Edwards was still a major threat as proved on the hour mark when he shot over Maher’s bar.

Maher then had to pull off a stunning save to deny Max Black On 73 minutes Bustin went as close as you could when his shot finally beat Beeson but it came crashing back off the cross bar. Two minutes later and it was game over and again it came straight from a Tividale attack. A free kick was comfortably cleared, Lichfield swept forward, and Maher found himself one on one with Lichfield striker Max Dixon and the striker gave the keeper no chance with a low drive into the bottom corner.

5 minutes later and it was 4-0. Tividale defender Hayden Reeves was adjudged to have felled Edwards in the box and Dan Lomas scored from the resulting spot kick.
