Tividale 1-0 Stone Old Alleynians

Cocking sinks the Stone

Since our 4-1 drubbing at the hands of today’s opponents 5 weeks ago at their ground we were unbeaten in our last four games in all competitions and so there was no doubt that if we wanted to extend this run, we would have to be at our absolute best today.

As is the norm this season Boss Dave King had to make changes to the side that battled their way to the 2-1 win a week ago. Good news was that centre back Dan Bryson was back and so coach TJ Munthali could have a week off after last week’s heroics. Bad news was that our goal scorer from the reverse fixture Elliott Hartley was in covid isolation and so was unavailable. So, it was a start for last week’s match winner Ethan Muckley. As we only had three available sub’s last week and even less this week. Youth team players Sam Butler and Lewis Bradley was drafted into the squad.

The only thing that the first 15 minutes was noted for was that there was not a chance in sight as both keepers where mere spectators as the ball was residing exclusively in the middle of the pitch. The first chance went to Stone after 15 minutes when Sam Wilson met a Jack Bowater free kick, but his header went straight into the midriff of Tividale keeper Peter Hawk. Plus, the offside flag had gone up.

Even though chances were at a premium it was the visitors who had the majority of the possession in midfield, but Tividale’s engine room were never going to let them settle. The home side could have gone ahead on their first real foray into the Stone penalty area on 31 minutes. Ethan Muckley’s neat flick ran nicely for striker Eshan Greer, but he was denied by a last-ditch tackle from Stone’s Ryan Goodwin. Five minutes later and Stone should have taken the lead. Sam Bowater ran onto a ball over the top of the Tividale defence, he rounded Hawk and passed the ball towards what was an open goal, only to see Tividale’s Tom Hurdman race across, dive and chest the ball off the line and out for a corner.

Stone were now looking the more likely to break the deadlock as Tividale defended as if their lives depended on it. With seven minutes left of the half Wilson unleashed a shot that Hawk did well to get to but could only parry the ball out to Sam Bowater, he in turn found Jack Tomlinson but he skied his shot. Then on the stroke of half time Tomlinson headed a Jack Bowater cross over the Tividale bar from six yards out.

Half time: Tividale 0-0 Stone Old Alleynians

With the floodlights on from the start of the game and the pitch being realy heavy. The decent of a fog like mist that seemed to swirl around throughout the second half sure did not help matters but there was no threat to the match running it’s full course.

Stone might have shaded the first half but there was no doubt that Tividale dominated the second period and should have been ahead on 52 minutes with a great goal. Bustin’s pace took him past two defenders, and he laid the ball off to Greer, who in turn rolled the ball into the oncoming Jason Wood and his shot was deflected out for a corner. Bustin was now causing havoc down the left flank and another of his runs in the 66th minute ended with him just dragging his shot wide of Andrew Walklate’ s far post. Four minutes later and Bustin again fired wide, this time getting on the end of a Muckley knock down.

As the game moved into the final 10 minutes the game seemed to have 0-0 all over it, especially after Muckley was put through but another brilliant tackle, this time by Stone defender Joe Baxter thwarted him just as he was going to get his shot off. As the game moved into its final three minutes, substitute Lewis McPike raced into the Stone penalty box and got his shot away. Walklate pulled off a great save but could only direct the ball into the path of Curtis Cocking who gave the keeper no chance with his finish. Cocking’s second goal in two games had earned Tividale the three valuable points.

Haughmond 1-2 Tividale

Road Trip Victory

The point that we dug in for against high flying Worcester City was just what we needed prior to our visit to Haughmond another side that had recently found some form. Although in the bottom half after 17 games, Haughmond have picked up over 75% of their total points tally in the previous six games. So, this was going to be another toughie. Added to this away day was the continued unavailability to Manager Dave King of the players in the squad. In a week that saw Nail Maher, Dan Greatex and Adam Garmson all the leave the club for one reason or another.

For this game Dan Bryson and Joe Burrough’s were also both unavailable and Cameron Milne was injured in the Worcester game. The good news is that his ankle injury is not as serious as first thought. If you could call a cracked bone and soft tissue damage not as serious. So, with only fourteen players available player/coach TJ Munthali had to make another appearance in the centre of defence replacing Dan Bryson in what was the only change to the actual starting line-up against Worcester City.

Tividale got off to a flyer and from the kick-off were playing a quality passing game and after just 5 minutes Luke Carter found Curtis Cocking and his shot from the edge of the box whistled over the Haughmond cross bar. With most of the play in and around the Haughmond area, Tividale deservedly took the lead. Great persistence from Darragh Bustin who latched onto a short Haughmond pass, wins the ball, and carries it forward, then lays it to Cocking who finds the corner of home keeper Sam Jones’s net from twenty yards via the post.

For some reason after the goal instead of pushing on, Tividale backed off their host’s and let them grow into the game and from a Joe Pratt free kick in the 24th minute, Tividale birthday boy keeper Peter Hawk celebrating his 21st. birthday comfortably took a Harry Morris’s header. Haughmond had another great chance 2 minutes later when the lively Sam Yeardley was allowed to attack the Tividale box, but his final shot was deflected for a corner and from the resulting corner Morris headed wide.

Haughmond were now in control of the game and Hawk did well in saving a goal bound effort from Scott Ryan on 39 minutes. Tividale nearly ended the half by doubling their lead, when Eshan Greer headed down for Bustin, who tried an outrageous volley that just cleared the cross bar.

Half Time: – Haughmond 0-1 Tividale

Tividale started the second half as they did the first with Cocking trying to return Bustin the favour in the 50th minute but Jones saved brilliantly. Haughmond were soon back at the visitors and a minute later a Harvey Lewis shot was deflected for a corner.

The game was now opening up with chances coming from both sides, Haughmonds Lewis found Ryan on the edge of the Tividale box, but he failed to hit the target with his shot.  Young Ethan Muckley replaced Eshan Greer on the hour and almost made an instant impact with his pace. Jones parried his initial shot, then neither Bustin nor Hartley could not force the ball over the line.

On 65 minutes Elliott Hartley was booked after going on a run into the box and going down under the challenge of two Haughmond defenders. We can excuse the referee for not giving a penalty from twenty yards away, but to add insult to injury he then booked Hartley for diving. One of 5 Tividale bookings in the game.

On 72 minutes Haughmond got the equaliser they deserved. Yeardley’s run down the right was finished off with a cross into the box, and Morris rose unchallenged to plant the ball past a stranded Hawk and into the back of the net. It was now game on, and Lewis’s free kick 3 minutes later could have given them the lead had it not been for Hawk punching clear at full stretch.

Haughmond had a great chance on 82 minutes when a Brad Welding slip let in Haughmond sub Louis Irvine but he blazed the ball over. Two minutes later and Tividale’s own number 12 showed how it is done After another spell of Haughmond pressure, Tividale were away on the counterattack. Hartley’s deft flick-on was perfect for Muckley to run on to, outpacing the Haughmond back line. Then calmly he sat the keeper down and passed the ball in the back of the net.

Haughmond were not out of it and on 88 minutes after some splendid work in getting himself into a shooting position Josh Jones fired over the bar. Tividale could have extended the lead in injury time when Jones pulled off another great save when palming a Bustin free kick over the bar.

In the end the result was a little tough on Haughmond especially in the middle hour where they were the better side. But Tividale have been there many times and Haughmond’s squad of players will continue moving up the table.

Tividale 0-0 Worcester City

Stalemate

After the midweek performance and win against Wolves Casuals in midweek. It was a much more upbeat squad that gathered for this fixture agains a Worcester City side now showing their true potential.

With the long term Dan Smith and Hayden Reeves our only injury concerns, Manager Dave Smith now had some difficult decisions to make and he decided to stay with the 4-3-3 formation. Bringing in Brad Welding at left back, pushing Elliott Hartley into a more attacking role and Lewis McPike on the bench along with Adam Garmson who was replaced by the returning Eshan Greer.

The game’s first half chance fell to Tividale in the 5th minute when a Hartley cross that Bustin just failed to get on the end of. On 6 minutes the game was paused as we along with other games all over the country gave a minutes applause in remebrance of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes. RIP little boy.

There was no serious chances of note as both sides battled the wind and the soft surface underfoot. With the wind at their back’s the visitors looked the more threatening and reeled off a number of corners in which by and large Tividale defended comfortably. On 26 minutes Worcester created their first decent chance from open play with Billy Shaw providing Will Gibbons a pass after a maizy run, but Peter Hawk was equal to the shot. Then centre back Fortune Maphosa surged forward and beating three men before firing off a shot that was well blocked by the Tividale defence.

With half an hour gone Shaw saw his shot sail high and wide and 4 minutes later his team mate James Douglas also fired over. Tividale had a great chance on 45 minutes when from a Hartley cross Matt Hunt headed it down but Worcester defender Sam Hall hooked the ball clear

Half Time:-Tividale 0-0 Worcester City

Tividale started the second half far brighter, creating a couple of opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the half. Again Hartley involved as he drew a comfortable save from Harrison. With the wind at their backs, Tividale continued to threaten as Darragh Bustin let fly from twenty yards out. His effort moved slightly in the air but Harrison was again equal to it. With just under 20 to play, the hosts had a penalty appeal emphatically turned down by referee Forrest as the home forward went down as he cut across his defender.

As we entered the final ten minutes, the hosts had claims for a free kick questionably turned down, and they almost found themselves a goal down as well as Worcester broke, but Bailey Fuller’s effort was blocked.

After 83 minutes, a tough tackle in the middle of the park forced a stoppage, as Tividale substitute Cameron Milne was taken off on a stretcher. Having used all three subs, the hosts were forced into playing the final few minutes with ten men and were nearly punished for that as the visitors nearly won it in injury time. Played in behind, Fuller found himself in a good position in on goal, but with Hawk baring down on him. Hawk’s touch did just enough to deflect the ball away, but only into the path of Shaw. His effort was blocked as the home defence threw their bodies in front of the ball to protect their open goal.

The last chance of the game was thwarted again by Hawk, again denying Fuller. Picked out by an excellent ball out wide, Hawk raced out of his area to close the winger down. Fuller tried to pick out his supporting team mate who would have had a simple tap in but Hawk managed to get something on the ball to prevent it.

Tividale 5-1 Wolverhampton Casuals

Good to be back home

After a well-publicised difficult couple of weeks, and although we have a decent away following for this level. It was great to be back at The Beeches and in front of our home fans.

Once again manager Dave King had to amend the side that started last week’s game. With Peter Hawk coming in for Niall Maher in goal. Other changes were Brad Welding, Luke Carter and Lewis McPike coming in for TJ Munthali, Elliott Hartley, and Ethan Muckley.

It was the home side that started the brighter and at times Casuals had trouble in getting out of their own half. But when they did, they looked fairly threatening on the counterattack. But Tividale made their early pressure tell when in the 12th minute a deep Darragh Bustin corner was headed back across goal by Matt Hunt and Eshan Greer flicked the ball past Joe Williams in the Casual’s goal.

Casuals were still carrying a threat and on 15 minutes were unlucky not to have levelled when a Josh Parker shot was blocked by Hawk, the ball then hit Tividale defender Dan Bryson and rolled agonisingly the wrong side of the post for Casuals. Brad Welding then skied a free kick on 17 minutes after a mistimed Romehl Seranto challenge on Curtis Cocking. Cocking then saw his shot turned around the post by Williams on 22 minutes and a minute later Williams denied Bustin after he cut in from the right and unleashed a shot that the keeper did well to hold.

With 26 minutes played Casuals produced their best move of the half, when Mo Conteh played in Josh Parker and his deft touch into the path of Ross Evans could not have been better weighted, but the striker could not keep his shot down. Cocking then made a neat run in between Casual’s centre back’s and tucked the ball home but the referee’s assistant ruled that he had gone too early and flagged him offside.

Tividale doubled their lead on the stroke of half time with a trademark Bustin goal. The midfield man collected the ball just inside the Casuals half, strolled forward and from twenty-five yards unleashed a thunderbolt that rocketed over Williams and into the back of the net.

Half Time: – Tividale 2-0 Wolverhampton Casuals

Tividale were immediately at Casuals from the start of the second period when Bustin fired over the Casuals bar after great build up play by Jason Wood and Greer. 10 minutes in and Tividale were three up. Another Bustin corner to the back post and Hunt again rose above everyone else, but this time instead of heading it back into the danger zone he powered this header over Williams and into the roof of the net.

Tividale were a lot closer with Welding’s next free kick attempt on 52 minutes. This time he whipped into Hunt, but this time Williams was able to parry away his shot and Casual’s defence completed the clearance.

With Tividale now completely dominant Casuals did not help themselves with two second half sin bins. First skipper Joe Clarke and then striker Conteh.

Bustin then cut inside his marker on 54 minutes but from an acute angle he could only hit the side netting. Then a minute later from a Welding free kick a Bustin header struck the base of the post. Casuals Finn Howell had their first chance of the half on 57 minutes when he latched onto a long ball, but he put his shot over the bar. Then in one movement Welding controlled a cross field pass and shot, but he also could not keep his down.

Tividale made it four nil through substitute Ethan Muckley in the 71st minute providing a cool finish passing the ball wide of Williams and into the bottom corner of the net after a lovely ball played through to him from the midfield. Casuals to their credit kept working and trying to make something happen and Evans tried to catch Hawk off his line in the 74th minute with a speculative effort from twenty yards out, but the young keeper had it covered.

Casuals did get on the score sheet in the 82nd minute when Hawk did well to push away a blistering low shot, but it fell nicely to Casual’s substitute Harry Rogers, and he made no mistake from six yards out. Tividale substitute Cameron Milne tried his luck from distance on 84 minutes, but that effort went wide. With three minutes to go Milne was on target from a great deal closer when he met a low Bustin cross at the back post and slotted the ball past Williams to make it 5-1.
