Birmingham Senior Cup
Round 2
Tuesday 2nd December 2025
Hednesford Town 0-2 Tividale

We go down fighting

Tividale faced Hednesford in the Birmingham Senior Cup Second Round under the lights at the impressive Keys Park,

The Pitmen got off to a flying start with Dan Turner hitting the crossbar in the second minute, Dom McHale was on hand to tap in the rebound to give the home side an early lead. Jonny Edwards went close to doubling the lead with a shot that went narrowly wide of the post.

A great attacking move from the Pitmen found Edwards free in the area with just the Tividale keeper to beat, however his shot went wide from close range. On 16 minutes Tividale threatened after some good work from Shakeel Brown but his cross was headed clear.

The Pitmen continued to create chances; McHale went close to adding his second goal of the night before Dan Trickett-Smith sent a freekick over the crossbar after a foul on Edwards. On 35minutes Tividale had a go but a Myles Durham shot was comfortable for keeper Parke.

Hednesford’s Edwards did put the ball in the net in the 36th minute but saw his effort chalked off for an offside offence. Shakeel Brown made a promising run into the Pitmen box for Tividale, but his shot went well wide of the mark. Tividale ‘keeper Joe Williams made a couple of saves from McHale and Edwards before the half time break.

Half Time:- Hednesford Town  1-0 Tividale

A late challenge early in the second half from Joe Doyle-Charles on Myles Durham saw the Hednesford midfielder dismissed and the unfortunate Tividale player carried from the pitch on a stretcher.

Tividale tried to take advantage of their numerical superiority with skipper Brad Maslen-Jones freekick requiring a decent save from Xander Parke in goal for the Pitmen. Alfie Higgs had the next opportunity for Tividale, forcing a good save from Parke.

Despite the visitors threatening for a spell following the red card, it would be the Pitmen who scored what turned out to be the decisive goal, a foul on substitute Jacob Gwilt allowed Chris Hussey to deliver a long ball into the Tividale area which was latched onto by Edwards who fired home in the 76th minute.

Tividale substitute Spencer Bailey should have done better when he broke through on goal, but his shot went wide with just Parke to beat. Another decisive move from the Pitmen set up a chance for Edwards who sent his shot narrowly over the bar and that was how it ended.

So Tividale bow out of the Birmingham Senior Cup, but not before a tremendous performance and we can only hope that we carry this sort of form into our league campaign

A Valiant Effort

On 13 minutes keeper Kieran Harrison keeps out a deflected shot from Batchelor. A couple of minutes later and Tividale concede a penalty when Tom Rann brought down 1874 forward Mike Hayes and Dale Jennings scored from the spot

There then became a period of patchy play and a spate of yellow cards Tom Rann and Myles Durham both going into the book and on 29 minutes Eddie Rann was sin binned for dissent

On 35 minutes 1874’s Ben Furlong blazed over the bar in their only real chance against 10 men and. Eddie Rann returned to the fray on 39 minutes but within two minutes the visitors were back down to 10 men again when Tom Rann received a second booking culminating in a red card

Tividale then defended valiantly but on 82 minutes, neat play from Northwich finally breaks the back line of Tividale with the Jennings finding the corner.

Tividale nearly had the equaliser there performance deserved when deep into injury time Brad Maslen-Jones dribbled his way into the box but couldn’t get his shot off and in the end a 2-1 defeat was the final score
