Tividale 0-2 Shifnal Town

Again Tividale draw a blank

Once again our shortfall’s in front of goal completely overshadowed a sterling effort from the lad’s but at this level if you lose concentrations or make error’s in defence. You will have to score goals to stay in games and at the moment we are struggling to find the net.

Coming off the back of the 0-0 draw at Stourport Swifts on Boxing Day. Tividale made just the 2 changes Ethan Delaney came in for Aon Mohammed Abbas who limped off injured at Stourport and Ryan Piggott came in for Luke Postle.

Tividale got off to the worst possible start, when in the second minute goalkeeper Ethan Hawkes brought down Shifnal striker Lewis Jarman and Isaac Phillips sent Hawkes the wrong way from the spot to open the scoring. Kyle Bennett tried his luck from 25 yards after 10 minutes, but he was a yard wide.

Town doubled their advantage on 13 minutes when Bennett’s corner from the left was flicked home by Jarman at the near post.

Shifnal were now threatening to over run the home side and they had a good chance to add to the lead on the half-hour when a Brad Maslen-Jones’ long ball fell to Theo Knight, but he hurried his shot from the edge of the penalty area which was straight at Hawkes. Tividale settled down for the last 15 minutes and slowly got themselves into the game but never laid a glove on the visitors for the rest of the half.

Half Time:- Tividale 0-2 Shifnal Town

Tividale showed a marked improvement in the second half and had their first decent chance of the game when from a Agyemang cross on 50 minutes Cottam headed wide and two minutes later Piggott fired wide. Agyemang won the ball on the left on 56 minutes, but his angled drive was well saved by Shifnal keeper Andy Wycherley. On the hour Piggott found Cottam with a great pass but again Wycherley blocked his shot.

It looked odds on Town extending their lead after 75 minutes when the ball fell to substitute Josh Beamond following a goalmouth skirmish, but his shot was saved well by Hawkes. Tividale came close to halving the deficit in the 78th minute when Cottam had his third chance of the half but this time he shot wide. In the 81st minute when Aon Mohammed Abbas was freed on the left but his first-time shot was deflected by Wycherley for a corner. But in the end the visitors stood firm and picked up the 3 points.

Stalemate down by the river.

After conceding 5 goals in our last game, it was great to keep a clean sheet but at the other end our failings were still there as we struggled to find the back of the net even though we created some decent chances.

With it being Boxing Day and the Christmas holiday’s as is the norm there were a lot of players unavailable for this fixture and in the end, there was 5 changes and a number of positional changes as we looked to bounce back to the beating we had against Dudley Town. Out for this game were Jordon Sangha (suspended), Lewis Derrick (unavailable), Ryan Piggott, Nehemia Zazi and Raheem Akhtar rested. In came Tom Rann (from suspension), Jason Wood, Callum Lloyd, Aon Mohammed Abbas, and Ezekiel Agyemang.

With Rann returning at right back, Sam Bratt-Wyton returned to left back and Luke Postle moved back to wide left with Tom Cottam moved into the No 10 role.

Tividale had the better of the start and an Abbas pass found Agyemang on 10 minutes but he fired wide. 8 minutes later Abbas himself saw an effort go wide. Although Stourport had most of the possession they never really threatened until Jim Hanson had a clear chance but his shot on the turn flew narrowly wide.

Matt Harland then linked up well with Chris Knight on 30 minutes for Kobi Love to force a fine save from Tividale keeper Ethan Hawkes turning his shot around the post. 5 minutes later and Swifts were in on goal again Love with a 20 yard effort that shaved the crossbar. Hawkes was in action again soon after, holding on to long range effort from Cameron East, and a fine run from George Baker saw Knight fire his low cross narrowly wide.

As the half ended Postle fired a shot come cross, across the Swifts 6 yard box but no Tividale player could get a touch and at the other end an East cross was headed over by Baker.

Half Time:- Stourport Swifts  0-0 Tividale

In the first attack of the second half on 46 minutes, Knight shot weakly wide when clean through on goal, and then 2 minutes later Hawkes denied Love in a one on one situation. Then Baker drove his right foot effort straight at a grateful Hawkes.

Swifts keeper Dom Richards was called into action after 58 minutes when he touched over the bar a Piggott shot seconds after coming on as a sub. Fellow Tividale sub Brandon Mossini then shot wide in the 74th minute. .

Harry Higginson did well to block a snapshot from Jim Hanson and as the game meandered out to a close Piggott again failed to hit the target with his shot and Hawkes produced another fine save from an Ethan Hanson header following a corner to keep the game goalless.

Mistake’s

As much as the endeavour and spirit is there and the constant praise from club’s that have beat us. If we don’t cut out the lapses in concentration and schoolboy errors, we will carry on circling the plug hole of relegation until the inevitable happens.

Two enforced changes were made from the side that came up short against 1874 Northwich 2 weeks ago. With Tom Rann suspended for this game and Ethan Delaney suspended. Luke Postle and Nehemia Zazi replaced them, With both Brandon Mossini and Jevani Robinson also unavailable. Postle was asked to play in the unfamiliar position of left back and skipper Sam Bratt-Wyton switched to right back. Zazi was a straight swap for Delaney.

The visitors were on the front foot from the off and it was a complete onslaught for the first 25 minutes. Tividale keeper Ethan Hawkes can count himself fortunate on 10 minutes when punching away a Lewis Mitchell shot but that went straight to Dudley midfielder Todd Sherwood but he blazed over the bar from 12 yards. Dudley were ahead on 12 minutes when a Matt Funge cross somehow pin balled between Bratt-Wyton and Hawkes and landed at the feet of Dudley striker Ethan Muckley who was left with a simple tap in.

It should have been 2-0 a couple of minutes later when Muckley turned provider with a neat lay off but Jordan Davies shot wide. Then a lovely flick by Funge on 17 minutes sent Muckley through on goal but his shot failed to trouble Hawkes. Davies again had a great chance in the 23rd minute to get on the score sheet when he was clean through but Harry Higginson got his body in the way of his shot and deflected it for a corner.

Tividale’s first effort on goal came after 25 minutes when a Lewis Derrick cross was headed inches wide by Ryan Piggott. The chance kicked the home side into gear and although not threatening, neither was Dudley. But just as they were looking comfy. Dudley struck again. Funge whipped in a cross on 32 minutes Raheem Akhtar is unable to clear at the front post and Muckley is on hand to hammer the ball into the roof of the net from 6 yards.

On 43 minutes a Dudley player was able to get to the bye line, this time Muckley and his shot fell to an unmarked Funge who steadied himself, looked for all the world that he would hit Dudley’s third but he smacked his shot off the crossbar.

Half Time:- Tividale 0-2 Dudley Town

Tividale were given a lifeline within two minutes of the restart when Zazi was brought down in the penalty area by Dudley defender Jamie Edwards and Jordon Sangha stepped up and beat Dudley keeper Joe Williams from the spot.

Unbelievably Tividale handed the two goal advantage back to the visitors when straight from the kick off Funge steals after Tividale fail to clear and beats Hawkes Williams

Ryan Piggott did well to get between his two markers and get his shot off after 52 minutes and although it beat Williams it lacked the power required and a Dudley defender was able to cover and clear. But on 55 minutes Dudley were 4-1 up when from a ball into the box again Tividale fail to clear and Alex Perry is on hand to sweep the ball home.

Three minutes later and the home side are down to 10 men, when goal scorer Sangha is shown a straight red for a challenge in front of the dug outs. My opinion a foul and yellow yes. Straight red card very harsh.

At this point you felt that Tividale may fall apart here, but no not this irritating lot who proceeded to take the game to the visitors. Aon Mohammed Abbas’s free kick to make it 4-2 on 67 minutes kicked it off. A beautifully flighted strike that had Williams scrambling across his line in vain.

Piggott had a great chance to cut the arrears to one when a Mitchell slip let him in one on one with Williams but the keeper pulled off a great save. Then just as Tividale went down to 9 men with a Bratt-Wyton sin Bin fellow substitute Ezekiel Agyemang was also denied by Williams after a great passing move.

With three minutes to go Dudley were awarded a penalty after a tired looking challenge from Akhtar and Brad Mansell made 5-2 from the spot. Tividale still pressed forward and Piggott was denied a consolation goal when his shot was deflected for a corner in stoppage time.

1874 Northwich vs Tividale

Midland Football League

Saturday 30th December 2024
1874 Northwich 3-2 Tividale

A poor 10 minutes, the difference

Once again, the boys put on a great display against 1874 Northwich apart from a mad 10 minutes, when they conceded 3 goals. We have to learn that at this level and against good sides like 1874 Northwich we cannot afford to give them 3 goal starts.

Phil Rann made one change to the starting eleven for this game after the mid-week win against Wyrley in the JW Hunt Cup, Jordon Sangha coming in for Jamie Hunt. For the first 17 minutes the game was fairly quiet until 1874 full back Niall Osborne gets played in behind on the right, he crosses to an unmarked Eden Bailey, who controls well with his chest and hits home.

Three minutes later and 1874 doubled their lead. Tividale centre back Raheen Akhtar was caught in about three minds regarding what to do with the ball in his 6 yard box. 1874 forward Josh Oultram dispossess him and cuts the ball back for Joel Jones to side foot the ball into net.

On 27 minutes it’s 3-0 when again Oultram makes a nuisance of himself after receiving a neat pass from Joel Jones and then evading the challenge of Sam Bratt-Wyton down the right flank and as keeper Ethan Hawkes anticipates a cross, he cleverly lofted the ball into the roof of the net at Hawkes near post.

As 1874 dominated play it looked like Tividale would be heading for a long afternoon, but on the stroke of half time the visitors were given a lifeline. From a Hawkes goal kick Tom Cottam knocked the ball down to Lewis Derrick, his shot was parried away by 1874 keeper Mike Shorthouse, but he could do nothing about Ryan Piggott’s follow up strike and at half time Tividale were back in with a chance.

Half Time:- 1874 Northwich 3-1 Tividale

Tividale started the second half buoyed with the slim lifeline they were given at the end of the first and on 53 minutes Shorthouse did well coming out bravely to block an Ethan Delaney charge into the box. A minute later and Piggott looked all set to pull the trigger but was foiled by a brilliant Tom Morris tackle.

On 57 minutes 1874’s Chris McCann’s free kick was deflected off the Tividale wall and behind for a corner. On the hour Shorthouse was again there to deny Piggott as Tividale pressed forward. Tividale made it 3-2 in the 67th minute when substitute Mohammed Aon Abbas got to the left byline, pulled the ball back to the edge of the area and Bratt-Wyton ran onto it and his shot flew in via Shorthouse’s left upright.

With a minimum of 23 minutes to go the momentum was with Tividale but 1874’s game management was spot on. They tightened things up, drew Tividale into unnecessary challenges and with the help of some weak officiating were able to frustrate them to the point that they received a number of what can only described as very soft bookings in the last quarter of the game.

But in the end 1874 held out for the 3 points and Tividale can only wonder as to what could have happened but for those mad 10 minutes.
