Emirates Sponsored FA Cup
Extra Preliminary Round
Tividale FC v Wednesfield FC
Saturday 10th August 2019
Kick off at 3:00pm
Here we are the start of another FA Cup competition that will more than likely end with two multi million pounds club lining up at Wembley in May for a £1 million pound cheque.
But so what, this is where it starts for the likes of us and Wednesfield. The Extra Preliminary Round. With both teams playing for a winners cheque of £2,250 and a home game against Chasetown.
It was great for us to turn another very good all round performance into points on the board, with our midweek win over AFC Wulfruniuns especially after the opening day defeat in Coventry on Saturday
Wednesfield also come into the game on the back of a opening day win. A result made even more remarkable that for the second year running their management staff had left (and as nearly always happens at this level of football) taking the majority of the players with them. So we have to applaud Moggsy and all at Wednesfield on their perseverance and again recruiting the staff and a squad good enough to challenge for Step 5 promotion.
THE HISTORY
We have met each other many times over the years and Tividale must be a sort of bogey side for our visitors because as we mostly get the upper hand. Going way back to 2009 a Liam Morris hat trick helped us to a 3-2 win after being 2-0 down. Then the following season Brett Clarke came up with the last ditch winner that literally guaranteed us our first ever WMRL Premier title back in 2010.
We then met in the 2014 JW Hunt cup and again we took the spoils winning 3-1 with goals from Mitchell Plows, Sam Williams and a James Lewis own goal. A young Keiron Miller scoring Wednesfield’s consolation goal.
It was not until the 2017-18 season that we met again this time in the league. The first a week before Christmas ended in a 2-2 draw, with both keepers Tividale’s Ryan Cheshire and Wednesfield’s Tom Whitehouse both outstanding. Dan Smith and Elliott Hartley were the Tividale scorers while Scott Powell and that man Kyle Brady were the Wednesfield scorers. The return fixture 2 months later resulted in a well deserved 2-1 win for Wednesfield. Despite Cheshire saving a Josh Jones penalty. Demetri Brown did put Tividale ahead at half time, but second half goals from Scott Sandland and Reece Mason earned Wednesfield the points.
The 2018-19 season produced one of the most freakish results you will ever see and fortunately Tividale was on the right end of it. In October 2018 at Wednesfield the game had all the hallmarks of a classic after the first half, Tividale had a slight 1-0 half time lead courtesy of Ben Birch. What happened in the second half no one could have predicted, while every shot Tividale had went in. Tividale keeper Luke Kriskinans was having a blinder and saved everything Wednesfield threw at him. The final score was an unbelievable 8-0 win to Tividale. The second game was really over at half time with Tividale taking a 3-0 lead and eventually running out 5-0 winners.
