Match Preview – Droitwich Spa

THE FACTS

Buildbase Sponsored FA Vase
2nd Qualifying Round
Tividale FC v Droitwich Spa FC
Saturday 14th September 2019
Kick off at 3:00pm

It’s back to national cup action for us after last Saturday’s defeat at Long Eaton United. With the visit of Droitwich Spa FC in the Buildbase sponsored FA Vase.

Although they are currently playing two levels below us. As always they would receive our full respect and they will not be taken lightly. Even more so after they beat Wednesfield in the previous round, the same Wednesfield team that we beat 2-1 in a very close FA Cup tie at The Beeches last month.

Apart from that impressive result they have started their league campaign very well. Totalling 6 points out of the three games they have played and scoring 12 goals. So there is no doubting the quality of this side

THE HISTORY

The two sides have never before. But Droitwich have made steady progress through first the Midland Football League and now the West Midland Regional League

Boldmere St Michaels and Stourport Swifts met for the second time in a week and it was the Mikes that won through to the 2nd qualifying round following a 3-2 win. Coventry Copsewood travelled to Bolehall Swifts and the game was goalless until just before half time when Copsewood took the lead through Isa Abraham. Four further goals followed as Copsewood won 5-0.

Newark Flowserve scored two goals in the last 17 minutes to progress through with a 3-1 win at County Hall. Coventry Sphinx beat AFC Wulfrunians 2-1 at Sphinx Drive, a Callum Woodward penalty being the winning goal.

A goal two minutes into stoppage time from Albert Lansdowne earned Gresley a much-needed win at home to Winsford United. Haughmond eased past Stone Old Alleynians at The Sports Village, 3-1 the final score.

Heather St Johns continued their cup exploits with a 3-0 win over Hereford Pegasus at St John’s Park. Highgate United went goal crazy beating Ellistown 11-1 at The Coppice, Stuart Hendrie scored three and Corey Carruthers two.

Result of the round was at The City Ground as Division 1 Lichfield City beat Premier Division Romulus 5-2. James Taylor scored a hat-trick of penalties for City as they collected another giant killing scalp. Tory Herbert scored twice for Racing Club Warwick in their 4-0 win over AFC Bridgnorth at Townsend Meadow.

THE FACTS

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Long Eaton United FC v Tividale FC
Saturday 7th September 2019
Kick off at 3:00pm

Last weeks 3-1 win at Stafford Town came on the back of a solid performance all round. Yes there were times when our hosts had the better of the play and put us under spells of pressure but you are going to get that at any level, especially in cup games when teams have nothing to lose. In the end we take on Droitwich Spa at The Beeches on Saturday 14th September.

This game is only going ahead because unfortunately for Long Easton they lost their Emirates Sponsored FA Cup Preliminary Round replay against South Normanton Athletic 1-0 on Tuesday night. If they had won they would have been at home to Coalville Town in the First Qualifying Round instead.

THE HISTORY

We last met in the 2016-2017 season in our last and brief stay in the Midland Football League. In the first clash at Grange Park, Tividale started brightly but once Jerome O’Connor had put the home side ahead in the first half Tividale then had no answers and a second half goal from Nialle Rodney wrapped up the points.

The reverse fixture was our final league game of that season and although we had accepted relegation a while back we went down with a smile on our faces. The game and result itself just about summed up our season. We had to make two substitutions due to injuries in the first 20 minutes and with us trying to sort ourselves out Long Eaton’s Andrew Todd opened the scoring. We settled into the game but Danny Brain doubled the visitors lead before half time. Tividale looked out of their depth as Todd plundered his second to make it 3-0 and it looked like a thrashing was on the cards.

Tividale were given a bit of a lifeline when they were awarded what’s known as a “soft penalty” and Chris Bladen pulled one back from the spot. Just as it looked as though there could be a bit of a fight back Blaine Hancock restored the 3 goal lead. Deep in injury time Tividale scored the last goal of their league campaign when Dan Smith made the final score 4-2
