Tividale hit the High’s

After a month in which we played a total of 9 games. Tividale ended September how they started it with an away win.

After two days of correspondents between Kevin Preece at Worcester City, The MFA and the FA (and we would like to thank them all for their help) we registered Worcester City defender Joe Hawkins on loan just before the deadline for this game.

With Jacob Barnes, Colum Nugent and Dan Bryson all out injured and Freddie Watts playing with an injury leaving us with just skipper Matt Hunt as the only fit centre back, the addition of Hawkins was vital.

With Brad Welding unavailable, young Will Rawlins switched to left wing back and Tom Hurdman moved to his familiar right wing back position with Hawkins replacing him in the back three.

Tividale got off to a dream start when Hurdman delivered a cross from the right and Dan Smith rose unchallenged to head home after just 2 minutes. Highgate’s Alex Price had a couple of decent chances to level the score. First in the 8th minute when his shot was parried by Adam Harrison and cleared and then 3 minutes later when he headed a free kick wide.

The hosts were now having the majority of the possession but were unable to get a breakthrough against a well-disciplined Tividale defence and when they did find a way keeper Harrison was there.

Tividale could have punished them and extended the lead when Smith’s cushioned header from a Ryan Grosvenor’s corner cleared the bar. Highgate went even closer on 40 minutes when a Price free kick went behind off the base of the post. Then a couple of minutes later Romario Martin had a shot saved by Harrison.

Half Time: Highgate United 0-1 Tividale

The second period was 4 minutes old when Highgate had the first effort on goal. A Price free kick ended with a Guy Clark overhead kick that cleared the bar.

Tividale then put clear daylight between them and Highgate with two goals in seven minutes. First on 52 minutes a Lewis McPike run down the left before cutting inside and hitting a superb twenty-five-yard drive wide of Highgate keeper Lewis Fenney and into the back of the net. Then on 59 minutes a Grosvenor free kick to the back post was headed back into the danger zone by Matt Hunt and Smith was the first to react turning the ball home for Tividale’s third.

Feeney then denied McPike with a good save on 64 minutes when he connected beautifully with a Hurdman cross field ball. Tividale added their 4th on 72 minutes. This time another Hurdman cross was met by fellow wing back Rawlins and he stroked the ball past Fenney from fifteen yards out.

With fifteen minutes to go Highgate were awarded a what looked like a very harsh penalty when after minimal contact by Hawkins onTrevor Edwards the referee pointed to the spot and Martin made no mistake from the spot.

Then with 5 minutes to go time Martin hit a thunderbolt into the top of the Tividale net giving the visitors a nervy last few minute. But in the end the visitors ran out worthy winners.

Coventry United 3-2 Tividale
Good Josh double sink Tivi

A trip to Coventry United is no easy awayday but again Tividale leave with a bagful of “if only’s” Once again manager Dave King can be proud of his team’s performance but has to be gutted with the result.

With the 2 matches a week workload catching up on the squad. Will Rawlins, Freddie Watts, Lewis McPike and Ryan Grosvenor returned in place of Joe Burroughs, Colum Nugent, Liam Wilkinson and Elliott Hartley from the side that played Nantwich on Tuesday night.

Tividale were quickly into their stride and in the 2nd minute Luke Carter had the first strike on goal but United keeper Reece Francis held it comfortably. But on 6 minutes they were ahead Dan Smith did well to hold off his marker, laid the ball into McPike who rolled the ball into the net.

In the 12th minute, Brad Welding then pounced on a misplaced pass drove forward but then fired a shot straight at Francis. Straight from Francis’s save United countered with their first attack. Kyle Carey racing into the Tividale penalty area before firing his shot against the outside of Adam Harrison’s post.

As Tividale pushed forward Welding had a free kick on the edge of the United area but again it went straight into Francis’s midriff.

On 22 minutes Francis produced a save that I doubt will be bettered in this league this season. Once again Smith held the ball up well on the right side of the United area and made space to get his shot off. There only seemed one place that he could aim for that was across Francis and into the far corner. Instead with Francis going one way, Smith hooked the ball toward his near top corner. With it looking a certain goal Francis somehow switched his weight to his other foot and pawed the ball away.

The save stirred the whole United side and on 33 minutes they were level. What looked a harsh free kick conceded by Tividale on the edge of their area. Up stepped United’s Josh O’Grady and he fired the free kick into the back of the Tividale net. On 40 minutes with their tales up Carey saw his shot beat away by Harrison.

Grosvenor then went close, his shot beating Francis but defender Lewis Isun cleared off the line. Francis then pulled off another brilliant save parrying away a Grosvenor effort. While at the other end first Carey was denied again by Harrison before the loose ball fell to O’Grady who volleyed just wide.

Half Time: Coventry United 1-1 Tividale

With just 3 minutes into the half Harrison had to scoop away a dangerous Carey cross and Tividale immediately countered with Grosvenor producing another Francis save.

This was now end to end stuff and United’s Chris Cox then brought a save from Harrison with 55 minutes on the clock. Two minutes later and Harrison turned a Carey effort away for a corner . From the corner Rawlins cleared an Isun header off the line.

On 65 minutes came possibly the second best save you will see all season. Carey collected a pass on the edge of the “D” and his shot was arrowing for the back of the net before Harrison touched it over. But the referee gave a goal kick to the astonishment of everyone in the stadium.

On 70 minutes the visitors had a great chance to retake the lead. A Welding free kick was met by Matt Hunt but his header was well saved by Francis

Two minutes later came O’Grady and United’s second. Tividale failed to clear and the home side won the ball back, the ball was worked inside to O’Grady and from 25 yards his shot beat Harrison.

Tividale kept battling away and on 88 minutes they had great chance to level the scores. Smith played in substitute Jack Bailey but again his turn and shot went straight at Francis. In the 90th minute United extended their lead. Welding failed to cut out a Carey pass to United substitute Rio Hutson, leaving Hutson one on one with Harrison and he beat the keeper at his near post.

In injury time to Tividale were awarded a penalty when Smith was brought down by United skipper Michael Quirke and Carter sent Francis the wrong way making it an uneasy couple of minutes for the home side. But they held out and took the 3 points.

Newark vs Tividale

Newark 2-0 Tividale

Westcarr the Newsance

Tividale travelled to Newark for the first time in their history. Coming on the back of not the greatest of showings in midweek it may not be the best place to put right a poor performance. But once again this squad put it all behind them and as good as Newark are, Tividale made a game of it.

Tividale welcomed the return of skipper Matt Hunt but were dealt the blow of the loss due to injury of his defensive partner Jacob Barnes. Manager Dave King brought in season’s debutante due also to injury Joe Burroughs to replace Barnes and rested Ryan Grosvenor who was on the bench.

As predicted the home side were immediately on the front foot and Ben Hutchinson produced a save from Adam Harrison after just 4 minutes. 15 minutes later on 19 minutes and Hutchinson’s strike partner Craig Westcarr was through on goal but he put his shot wide. Two minutes later and the journeyman Westcarr made no mistake with his second chance pouncing on a through ball and lashing the ball past Harrison and into the back of the net.

The visitors nearly responded in the best possible way on 26 minutes but Hunt headed a Brad Welding corner over the bar. Westcarr should have doubled Newark’s lead in the 28th minute but he blasted over from 10 yards.

At the other end Newark keeper Jason White pulled off a brilliant save when a Dan Smith cross was met on the volley by Welding at the back post but White was equal to it, blocking his shot with his legs. Smith then got an Elliott Hartley cross all wrong and was well wide of White’s goal with his header.

Newark ended the half with a couple of efforts from Liam King and Tom Potts that both cleared Harrison’s bar.

Half Time: Newark 1-0 Tividale

Within 3 minutes of the re start. Curtis Cocking who had been carrying a knock from the first half succumbed to the injury and was replaced by Grosvenor.

On 52 minutes the dangerous Westcarr again got his head to a Potts cross but headed wide. On the hour Newark got their second. A Westcarr corner was met by Kevin Bastos who nipped in just before a committed Harrison and headed home.

In the 76th minute Newark keeper White then had to produce another fine save when Newark’s substitute full back Jahren Barrow’s back header caught him off his line but he did brilliantly to back pedal and touch the ball over his bar.

With 7 minutes to go Tividale had another decent chance when Luke Carter got on the end of a Grosvenor free kick but he hooked his shot over. Then Westcarr somehow fired wide when he was left unmarked in the box with 5 minutes to go and deep into injury time a Bantos cross found an unmarked substitute Romello Nangle at the far post but he also blazed wide

Tividale vs Stourport Swifts

Tividale 1-7 Stourport Swifts

Swifts go seven up

If it is at all possible, even after a result like this there are some plus points. First you appreciate it when you are on the other end. We remember beating Smethwick 11-0 a couple of seasons ago when like tonight everything just seemed to go in. We have a game on Saturday so no time to dwell on it and finally. Michal our videographer was ill for this game (not Covid related) and so it is not on video. So, every cloud has a silver lining.

On a serious note we give full credit to Stourport for taking their chances but on the whole, we were never 6 goals worse than Stourport, but we had two awful spells and then throw in a few terrible mistakes and there you go.

Our curse of central defenders continued with skipper Matt Hunt unavailable for this one, joining Dan Bryson and Freddie Watts. Manager Dave King had just Colum Nugent and an injured Jacob Barnes to call on. So started with a back four. Luke Carter came in for Matt Hunt as the only change from Saturday’s win at Market Drayton.

Tividale were two down after just 16 minutes. First a Mark Danks corner found an unmarked Aaron Brett at the far post and he did not have to move and just nodded the ball into the back of the net on 10 minutes. The second came after a Bailey Fuller run down the right wing beat the Tividale offside trap and his ball into the box was tapped home by an unmarked Jack Watts. A minute later and it could have been 3-0 as a Kirk Layton header was touched over the bar by Adam Harrison.

It was in the 20th minute that Tividale had their first goal threat but Ryan Grosvenor could only drag his shot wide. A minute later a Stourport cross-field ball found Harrison Yates, but his stinging drive was touched around the post by keeper Harrison.

Tividale again failed to find the breakthrough in the 24th minute when a Dan Smith shot was blocked and out for a corner by keeper Dominic Richards and from the resulting corner Grosvenor also had his shot blocked.  On 26 minutes Brad Welding then saw his free kick graze the side of the post.

On 32 minutes Watts who now was full of confidence tried to hook one over his shoulder but it cleared the bar. Then a couple of minutes later Fuller had all the time in the world to lay the ball back for Watts but Harrison saved his shot well with his legs.

Luke Carter who had now moved into a back three then released Elliott Hartley in the 38th minute with a lovely through ball, but Hartley was unable to hit the target with his shot and put it wide Richards’s far post. With Tividale finishing the game much stronger Smith sent an effort over the bar.

Half Time:- Tividale 0-2 Stourport Swifts

If two goals in the first 16 minutes was bad enough. To then concede another 2 within 6 minutes of the restart and a minute apart just about killed the game as a contest. First Joe Hanson fired home from the edge of the box after Fuller had played him in. Then Watts scored his second when he raced clear of a sleepy Tividale defence and slid the ball past Harrison.
Once again after Tividale had cleared their heads they settled into the game but with a 4-goal deficit and committing men forward they were always likely to get caught on the break and on 74 minutes that is what happened. Welding is deceived by the flight of a Stourport ball pumped forward and his error lets in Watts to score his 3rd and Stourport’s 5th.

Tividale actually got on the score sheet on 80 minutes when a corner won after a substitute Sean Rowley shot was blocked, was taken by fellow substitute Lewis McPike, it was then headed on by Rowley and Curtis Cocking headed home.
Stourport soon restored their 5-goal lead a on 82 minutes when Drew Caravan drilled home their 6th and James Timmins headed home a corner in the 84th minute to make it 7.

Tividale did have a couple of chances at the death to add to add to their score but first a Carter free kick flew wide and in injury time McPike put his shot wide after he was put through.

in the end it was a bad say at the office. But we go again.
