Tividale vs Uttoxeter Town

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Saturday 30th September 2023
Tividale 4-1 Uttoxeter Town

At last a home win

Match report written by Rhys Beardmore for the Midland Football League

Tividale were going into this match in a good run of form in both the league and the FA Vase. They had picked up four points from their last two matches in the league and were through to the first-round proper of the FA vase where they were drawn against Wisbech Town. They beat Shawbury United last weekend in the FA vase and were looking to get a result to move clear of the relegation zone.

The starting line up for Tividale featured Zacharias Kourouyianna leading the team as the skipper and starting in central defence alongside Joe Burroughs. The formation looked like a 4-2-3-1 with Taylor Townsend leading the line and being supported by Ryan Snape and Ewan Edwards on the wings. Jakob Burroughs and Jake Lloyd started in holding midfield for the hosts. There were three changes from the team that started against Shawbury United last weekend with Callum Gillies coming into the team and playing at left back.

Tividale started the match the stronger of the two teams and were in the ascendancy throughout the first half. Ewan Edwards had an early chance for Tividale from the right that was well saved by Charlie Wood in the Uttoxeter goal in the 2nd minute. The hosts were putting sustained pressure on the Uttoxeter goal throughout the early stages of the match and were rewarded with a foul on Joe Burroughs from a corner which resulted in a penalty.

Ryan Snape stood up to take the penalty and finished well straight down the middle to give Tividale the lead in the 10th minute. Ryan Snape had another good chance to make it 2-0 a few minutes later and had a shot well saved by Charlie Wood to keep Uttoxeter in the match. The hosts controlled the first half well and managed to create numerous chances in front of goal.

Uttoxeter were linking up the play well, but it was not quite clicking in the final third throughout the first half and they struggled to get a foothold in the match. Just as they were starting to settle into the match, Tividale made it 2-0 through an excellent move down the right. Ewan Edwards accelerated down the right wing and had a shot saved that fell to Jake Lloyd near the edge of the box who finished well to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

This proved to be a crucial moment in the match as Tividale scored another goal a few minutes later to make it 3-0 and effectively seal the match. Ryan Snape cut inside brilliantly from the left and unleashed an excellent shot into the right corner of the net in the 35th minute.

A common theme throughout the first half was Jakob Burroughs getting into good positions for Tividale to stop promising Uttoxeter attacks and breaking up the play from holding midfield.  This allowed Tividale to control the match and was one of the reasons why they were so dominant in the first half.

Ewan Edwards worked the ball well before shooting into the net to make it 4-0 in the 41st minute and it was a clinical first half from the hosts. Tividale managed to see out the half well and went into half time with a 4-0 lead.

Half Time:-Tividale 4-0 Uttoxeter Town

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Tividale mainly controlling the match and Uttoxeter having a few half chances to get a goal back. The half was not as eventful as the opening 45 minutes and was mainly comfortable for the hosts. None the less, substitute Reuben Kenny had a half chance for the visitors in the 68th minute to make it 4-1.

Ryan Snape had a good chance to make it 5-0 but shot wide when one on one with Charlie Wood in the 72nd minute. Mikey Conlon had a good chance from the edge of the box for Uttoxeter but shot over the bar in the 75th minute.

The visitors showed a lot of effort and endeavour throughout the match and were rewarded with a goal in the 85th minute. Mikey Conlon delivered a threatening free kick from the left which was headed in by Joel Dyche at the far post to make it 4-1 in the 85th minute. Uttoxeter showed a lot of character throughout the second half and battled well despite the difficult scoreline. The match ended a few minutes later and it finished Tividale 4-1 Uttoxeter Town.

One point more

Tividale followed up their win on Saturday with a battling point against a Stourport side. Once again nothing could separate the two sides here at The Beeches as this was the third successive draw between the two clubs at the home of Tividale.

Manager Stuart How showed the faith in his squad when he made SIX changes to the starting line up from the side that secured our first win of the season 3 days before. Well, there was five changes and one forced on him due to an injury in the warm up. Tarryl Davis broke down in the warm up and Joe Hawkins returned at centre back. The other changes were Zac Kourouyianni, Jake Lloyd, Ryan Snape, Kamol Campbell and Ewan Edwards were all rested, and Callum Gillies, Cody Mullan, Max Morris, Nashawn Blake, and Lewis Taylor-Boyce came in.

In a half devoid of any real goalmouth chances as both defences were well on top, both keepers redundant and both midfields struggled to get a foothold in the game. It was in the 41st minute before the first chance came along when from a Matt Johnson corners Aaron Birch headed home from corner from close range. on the stroke of half time Tividale had their first chance and could have equalised when a James Douglas free kick was wide by Joe Hawkins

Half Time:- Tividale 0-1 Stourport Swifts

After the break Mullen tried his luck from distance and his shot whistled wide. Then Stourport’s Dan Reka headed Daniel Binner’s cross straight at Tividale keeper Louis Connor and then Binner himself shot high and wide on the hour mark. A 66th minute a Lee Chilton cross was met by Binner, but Connor was equal to his effort and beat it away from point blank range.

Two minutes later and Tividale were level. His corner from the left-hand side evaded everyone in the area and found its way into the net at the far post.

Stourport pressed for the winner and the final chance fell to Luke Sidaway whose shot came back off the post from eight yards out.

Tividale open the win account

This was Tividale’s second coach journey in two weeks and while everyone loves an away day coach trip and last weeks journey home from Whitchurch was brilliant. the trip back after a win is just something else.

Boss Stuart How had to make a couple of changes to the side who played so well last weekend. With Jakob Burroughs staring his two game holiday. Jake Lloyd started in the middle of the park and fit again Tarryl Davis came in at centre half for the unavailable Joe Hawkins

Vic’s forced a corner in the first minute which was played short between Dylan Switters and Callum Parker, and it was Switters who nearly caught out Louis Connor in goal net with a curled cross. It was mainly Vic’s in possession, but they didn’t have much of an impact in the Tividale penalty area. Vic’s best chance came in the 17th minute as great build up play as Parker, Llyton Chapman, and Joe Camozzi combined which led to a Chapman shot over the bar. Two minutes later, Switters curled an effort in, which was dealt with well by the impressive Connor. It was Tividale who took the lead however with their first real effort, and what a strike it was as well. From a Kameron Campbell throw, the ball was played across the edge of the Vic’s area to Dominic Dell who hit it with the outside of his foot first time, and it flew into the top corner giving Vic’s keeper Adam Reid no chance. Minutes later, Vic’s came close as Parker was inches away from turning in a Matty Clarke cross shot. Tividale then started to press more, and Reid had to produce a smart stop from a Ewan Edwards drilled shot from a tight angle in the 38th minute. Then came the killer blow. In the 44th minute a Taylor Townsend corner was sent in for Tividale from the right, Reid missed it, and the ball fell for Ryan Snape at the back post to poke the ball home.

Half Time:- Northwich Vic’s 0 Tividale 2

Vic’s seemed to come out for the second half with more purpose and pushed Tividale onto the back foot. Marcus Perry, now wide on the left, clipped a shot just over in the 50th minute, whilst 2 minute later, he forced Connor to tip another shot around the post after he beat his man and raced towards goal. Next it was substitute Ryan Jackson’s turn to test Connor as he fired a shot in from the edge of the area, but the keeper just managed to push the shot away. Jackson and Camozzi were teaming up well down the right and it was good interplay between them which led to Camozzi firing a first-time effort just over the bar. In the 76th minute, Vic’s were denied by a wonderful double save by Connor, as he managed to first push out a stinging shot from Caelan Kilheeney before somehow turning over Jackson’s header from the rebound. It just was not going to be Vic’s’ day !Indeed, Tividale then made the game safe in the 78th minute as a cross from the right somehow found its way across goal for Lewis Taylor-Boyce to tap in from 2 yards out.

Whitchurch Alport 2-1 Tividale

Tividale still without a win

Tividale played the first of their two consecutive journeys up the M6 / M54 with a trip to Whitchurch Alport and despite another improved performance. They again came back with nothing in the points column.

Despite being put under a fair amount of pressure in the first half Tividale defended well and were a threat on the counter. And went ahead in the 47th minute when Ewan Evans received a Taylor Townsend pass and fired home from an acute angle

Half Time : Whitchurch Alport 0-1 Tividale

Tividale played the first of their two consecutive journeys up the M6 / M54 with a trip to Whitchurch Alport and despite another improved performance. They again came back with nothing in the points column.

the second half was much of the same with the home side pressing but Tividale with two great chances to extend their lead. First Taylor Townsend broke free but his shot was blocked by a Whitchurch defender and then Kamol Campbell broke from a home corner played a long one-two with Edwards that left him one on one with the home keeper who blocked his shot with his legs.

With 10 minutes to go Alport equalised when a Chris Azimall  shot is deflected off Campbell leaving Louis Connor stranded. Then in the 89th minute they scored the winner when Azimall broke into the area and puts the ball past Connor for his and Alport’s second
