Winchurch United 3-1 Tividale
Again, left with too much to do.
After a 15 day break from the Dudley Town defeat on Boxing Day. A trip to Cheshire was always going to be a toughie.
With snow up to 12 inches deep in the West Midlands we were pleasantly surprised to find that the snow had cleared in Winsford, but obviously that made the pitch heavy.
Winsford started the opening spell on the front foot and were ahead after 14 minutes when an Ollie McDonough shot was parried by Tividale keeper Joe Williams. Defender Joe Garrington couldn’t clear the ball and the ball fell for Blake Robinson, who taps home.
Credit to Tividale they battled away and after a great passing move were level on 24 minutes with Liam Matthews firing home to make it 1-1.
Problem is just when we get back into a game, we just keep shooting ourselves in the foot and on 33 minutes that happened. A Winsford corner and with no marking on the front post and Kai Boyle glances the ball past Williams in no man’s land and the home side are back in front.
Again, Tividale piled on the pressure and Shakeel Brown brought out a great save from home keeper Jacob Kirwan and then Brad Maslen-Jones fired just wide.
Half Time:-Winchurch United 2-1 Tividale
Tividale had to make a change at half time with Alfie Higgs replacing Garrington who had taken a first half knock.
The second half was devoid of real chances, Tividale’s best came on the hour mark when a Maslen-Jones free kick skimmed the Winsford crossbar and seven minutes later the home side added a third. This time a Boyle free kick beat Williams and smashed into the roof of the net.
Winsford then saw the game out without any major concern as Tividale once again failed to capitalise on times when they were in the ascendancy.
But it was great to get back on the pitch. Its just a pity that it is now another 14 day break before our next game
