AFC Wulfrunians 0-1 Tividale

A welcome three points

After a great point away at Northwich Victoria, and even the return of four regulars. This selection was a no brainer for Simon and Chris. It was the same side that started Saturday, with the returnees on the bench.

Wulf’s should have been ahead and possibly two up in the first 6 minutes. First when striker Freddie Cockerill lingered when in a great scoring position and his eventual effort was blocked on three minutes and then on 6 minutes an even better chance. A poor Ethan Hawkes clearance fell at the feet  of Cockerill, but somehow Hawkes at full stretch palmed away his shot.

The let off’s spurred Tividale into action and an Aon Mohammed Abbas cross on 8 minutes was met by Alfie Higgs but his header lacked any power and Wulf’s keeper Sam Arnold collected comfortably.

On 11 minutes Tividale took the lead. Again, Abbas whipped a ball into the box, Arnold seem to fumble it. Higgs retrieved the ball on the bye line, pulled the ball back to Ezekiel Agyemang who fired home.

Wulf’s came storming back and Hawkes did brilliantly to deny Craig Tuckley with a save down to his left on 24 minutes. Cockerill then headed wide a Tom Poole cross on 28 minutes and Jordan Uppal headed against the Tividale bar on 34 minutes. Two minutes later and a Kaden May free kick came back off the Tividale wall but he hit the rebound high, wide, and handsome.

Tividale did well to get through that period with their lead intact and had a couple of chances to extend their lead at the end of the half. Ethan Delaney finding Agyemang with a neat pass but the strikers shot was deflected wide and from the corner, the ball was like a pin ball in the Wulf’s area but somehow, they did not concede.

That was the last of the action in an eventful first half.

 Half-Time: AFC Wulfrunians 0-1 Tividale

Wulf’s had the first decent chance of the second period when a May shot on 46 minutes was not collected cleanly by Hawkes and he spilled the ball but full back Jevani Robinson was on hand to clear the ball.

Tividale should have doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Mohammed Abbas outpaced Wulf’s defender Joe Prosser but although his shot beat Arnold, it came back off the inside of the keeper’s far post.

Wulf’s themselves were denied in the 66th minute when a lovely defence splitting pass by Jake Lloyd sent Cockerill through and he found himself in the box and ready to shoot until a last ditch tackle by Tividale skipper Harry Higginson

Although the game was end to end, neither keeper was really troubled until Higginson made another last ditch block in the 88th minute. This time to deny Wulf’s sub Ryan Bright as the ball deflected onto the roof of the net.

In the end Tividale picked up their second win of the season and first since beating Romulus on 13th August.
