Tividale overcome 10 man Stratford

There will always be the thinking that the 37th minute sending off of FC Stratford keeper Luis Sone changed the game as Stratford was 1-0 up at the time. Truth is as good as Stratford were Tividale up to then had missed their fair share of chances.

THE FACTS

Midland Football League
League Cup Round 2
Tividale FC v FC Stratford
Tuesday 5th November 2019
Kick off at 7:45pm

It was disappointing that once again our weekend fixture was called off. Even so when you hope a little break in the weather may give us a chance only for us to get torrential rain for 3 hours and give the referee no chance but to call it off. So let’s hope we have a let up in the weather and this game goes ahead

Our opponents FC Stratford are currently in Division Two of the MFL and also come into this game on the back of a weekend postponement. In fact they have not played since 19th October and a 7-1 win against Lane Head FC. They also knocked out Division One side G N P Sports in the previous round of this competition.

THE HISTORY

The two teams have never met and so both of us are going into the unknown.

Tividale beat the badgers

Tividale’s record this season of winning at least one game in all their cup competitions continued as they put paid to a spirited young Brocton side.

After last weekend’s washout and a big league game against Selston at the weekend, a midweek game on a fresh October evening, in Stafford, on a billiard table of a pitch was just what the doctor’s ordered.

THE FACTS

JW Hunt Cup

1st Round

Brocton FC v Tividale FC

Tuesday 29th October 2019

Kick off at 7.45pm

Its back to cup action for Tividale this week and we visit our friends from Brocton. It was a pity that our game against Worcester City was called off at the weekend because our last couple of performances have been really pleasing and it would have set us up nicely for this one

Brocton’s game on Saturday also fell foul to the weather but are well placed in second spot in the Midland Football League Division 1 and on their last outing beat Rocester 5-4 in a thriller. Up until our last meeting we have not had a lot of luck against them.

THE HISTORY

We met at The Beeches last season in the 3rd Round of this competition and were 3-2 winners in a thriller that Tividale won at the death with a bizarre goal. Brocton went ahead on the stroke of half time when a Jack Edwards thunderbolt gave Tividale keeper Ryan Cheshire no chance. Demetri Brown drew Tividale level at the start of the second period.  Matt Kimmins put Brocton back in front on the hour but Tividale were level again when a Welding shot beat Brocton keeper Mark Wiggins but unfortunately for the keeper came back off the post, hit him and went in.

Tividale’s winner came when Darragh Bustin got his head to a cross then went down under the challenge of two Brocton defenders. Tividale players appealing to the referee for a penalty, Brocton’s defenders claiming it was a dive and while all this was going on, Wiggins was unsighted and the ball bounced merrily on it’s way over the Brocton goal line and sent Tividale into the semi final draw.

Previously was in the 2017-2018 first qualifying round of the FA Vase, the first hurdle in the competition. Unanswered goals from Brocton’s Paul McMahon sent us crashing out..

We were both in the Midland League Premier when we met in the 2016-2017 season and Brocton completed the double over us. In what was our first away game of that season an early Dan Lomas goal sealed the points for Brocton. The result at The Beeches looked more comfortable on paper but again it was a tight affair. Nick Wellecomme opened the scoring for Brocton and Tividale did get back level through Elliott Hartley but two Dan Lomas goals earned the visitors the points.
