Match Preview – AFC Wulfruniuns

THE FACTS

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Tividale FC v AFC Wulfruniuns
Wednesday 7th August 2019
Kick off at 7:45pm

Good thing about the start of a new season is that the games are played in some glorious weather and whatever happens in your last game they come thick and fast so as in both our cases we don’t have time to dwell on our opening day defeats.

Saturday’s loss was tough as we played well and feel we did enough to earn something out of the game. But this is a step up in level and when we are presented with chances we have to take them as they will be a lot rarer in this league

AFC have ex Tividale players Chris Sterling, Tom Turner, Charles Wilson and Chris Gregg in their ranks and after finishing 12th last season they will be taking Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against last seasons Division 1 champions Heather St John as just a bad day at the office and will be a stern test for us.

THE HISTORY

The last time we met was in the 2016-17 season when we took 4 points off our visitors with a 3-1 win at The Beeches and a 0-0 draw at the impressive Castlecroft Stadium.

In the home game a Dan Smith brace and a Lewis McPike strike earned us the points with non league journeyman Kyle Brady hitting the AFC consolation. The reverse fixture was a poor game played by two teams in the relegation zone that ended in stalemate. But while the point helped AFC’s campaign to stay up. It was not enough to help save the visitors.

Match Preview – Coventry Sphinx

THE FACTS

Midland Football League

Premier Division

Coventry Sphinx FC v Tividale FC

Saturday 3rd August 2019

Kick off at 3.00pm

Well after two seasons in in the WMRL Premier Division, we are back in the Midland Football League. Back with the majority of the squad that last played in the league but now with another two years experience.

First up for us is a visit to Coventry Sphinx who last season finished a respectable 9th in the league and will look to improve on that finish in the 2019-20 season.

THE HISTORY

We have to go back to the 2016-17 season for the last time we met Sphinx in any competition. We earned a 1-1 draw away at Sphinx on the August Bank Holiday Monday. It was an awful start for the visitors going a goal down after only 3 minutes, when Daz Eggleton headed home a Danny Harris cross. Tividale equalised on 68minutes when a Darragh Bustin cross was headed home by Jamie Hunt.

The return game at The Beeches was held in March 2018. By this time our fate had been literally sealed and Manager Dave king was looking to build for the following season in the WMRL Premier. In a game that was full of incidents Tividale went down 3-1. but they could have gone 1-0 up but visiting keeper Scott Dutton saved a Chris Bladen spot kick.  A minute later Tividale were a goal down when the prolific Ryan Harkin finished at the second attempt. On the hour Sphinx’s Reece Blackmore received a straight red card that everyone in the ground thought was harsh and the sense of injustice fired up the visitors even more and goals from Harkin with a superb free kick and a header by Jamie Towers sealed the three points. Nathan Jones did net a consolation goal for the home side with 2 minutes to go.
