Pre Season Friendly
Saturday 29th August 2020
Darlaston Town 1874 1- 0 Tividale
Although the chance of a final friendly against good opposition was more than welcome. It came at the cost of losing defender Dan Bryson with a suspected medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in the second half. We wish him all the best in his recovery and hope he is back playing very soon
The game itself saw the home side take advantage of a slow Tividale start and Darlaston striker Agyemang caused the visitors a few early problems with Adam Harrison having to make one decent save and then the forward was foiled by a brilliant Tom Hurdman tackle
But on 15 minutes Darlaston took the lead. Tividale failed to clear a Josh Watters corner and Sam Baxter was on hand to stab the ball home from 2 yards out.
It took the goal to get Tividale going but apart from a Jelson Antonio header. The hosts defence were fairly untroubled in the first half.
Tividale’s second half showing was much improved and Matt Hunt could have possibly scored an hatrick, but his closest effort was a shot that came back off the cross bar. Ryan Grosvenor, Elliott Hartley and Antonio also had chances but could not convert.
With 5 minutes to go Tividale were awarded a penalty when Grosvenor was adjudged to have been brought down on the Darlaston penalty area. He got up to take the kick. but he blazed the spot kick high over the bar.
In the end Darlaston’s first half goal was enough to win the game and we now move on to Stone Old Alleynians in the FA Cup
