Match Preview – Highgate United

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Tividale FC v Highgate United
Saturday 21st September 2019

We come into this game on the back of two defeats. First Long Eaton and it was as tough as we expected but we did not help ourselves. On the other hand Droitwich was possibly our worse performance since Dave King took over the reigns at Tividale over 3 years ago.

So a visit by Highgate United may not be the ideal scenario for our next game but we have to get these defeats out of our system and facing opposition of this quality is maybe just what we need.

It has been a mixed start for Highgate. Like us they are now out of both the FA Cup and Vase. But they started their league campaign with two very good wins beating Romulus and Selston. They have since then had 4 narrow league defeats and had 3 of their 6 league points deducted for playing an illegible player in one of their two wins. So now they are currently in the bottom three. But we all know that they will not be there for long

We have had some great games against Highgate. Who can forget Karl Edwards last minute headed winner in our MFL championship winning season. Or Harvey Walkers brilliant winning goal deep into injury time to complete a 3-2 FA Cup win after going 2-0 down after just 10 minutes.

All our games in recent years have been close affairs games with the prolific Lei Brown hitting the winner at Tythe Barn Lane in the 2016-2017 league campaign after Nathan Jones had cancelled out McCauley Manning’s opener.

While the game at The Beeches ended all square. First Orrin Pendley was first to react and turned the ball home when when a Marco Adaggio shot came back off the cross bar. But Dan Smith equalised just before half time. That man Manning then put Highgate back in front but Elliott Hartley levelled again and earned Tividale a share of the points.

Tividale – LWWDWL

Highgate United – WWLLLL

If he makes an appearance this will be Darragh Bustin’s 150th Tividale appearance.

Louis Connor and Freddie Watts hopefully will have recovered from their knocks. Cameron Milne is nearing a return to the squad. Great news is that Curtis Cocking is recovering from his tendon and ligament injury but is still at least 6 weeks away
