Match Preview – Coventry United

THE FACTS

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Tividale FC v Coventry United FC
Saturday 19th October 2019
Kick off at 3:00pm

All we can say is that it is great to be back home. Since records began we can not find a run of away matches like the one that we have just gone on. Our last home game was the 3-1 league win against Highgate on Saturday 21st September a run of 3 league and 2 cup games. It has been a mixed bag of results, 2 very close cup wins at AFC Wulfruniuns and Rocester. A draw at Selston, a narrow defeat at Walsall Wood and finally last weeks no show at Romulus. Still it was nice to go and visit old friends and new ones.

As we are now into the two games a week part of the season the suspensions and injuries are also beginning to kick in (more in squad news). So this game will be another test of our squad. Since winning the first division in the 2015-2016 season. United could be classed as a top 8 Premier side In 16-17 they finished 7th. The 2 season’s since then they have finished 8th and yes you guessed it they are 8th at the moment. They come into this game with a symmetrical last 6 games won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2.

THE HISTORY

Their first season in the Premier coincided with our last and they did a comfortable double over us. Banging us 5-1 at their former home at Sphinx Drive. Robert Prinzel’s penalty gave United a half time lead. Craig Steven’s 30 yard effort drew Tividale level at the start of the 2nd period but another penalty this time from Chris Cox put the home side back in front. Further goals from Pierre Moudime, Simeon Townsend and Josh O’Grady rounded off the scoring.

The reverse fixture at The Beeches saw Muziwandile Nduna and aTommy Glasscoe penalty seal the points for United

THE SQUAD NEWS

we hope to have Matt Hunt, Jacob Barnes and Tyree Clarke available for selection this week. Tom Hurdman was replaced last week with a strain, but hopefully should be ok for this game as we go into it with both Luke Carter and Dan Smith missing through suspension. Both Curtis Cocking and Tom Garratt are still recovering from their long term injuries.
