Wolverhampton Casuals 1-3 Tividale
The Colour Purple
Somehow this season every time we played in our all claret away kit, we have lost. Even when we played in it at home (this was to give our sponsors the chance to see it under The Beeches lights) we still lost then on penalties. It even got us thinking that the kit was a curse. But tonight, we laid that one to rest.
Before kick off an impeccable minutes silence was observed for the Darlaston Town 1874 and ex Tividale player Leon Taylor who tragically died at the age of 36 last week.
With the game against Bewdley postponed on Saturday afternoon due to a waterlogged pitch. It gave boss Dave King the chance to get a few more of his squad fit enough to play some part in this game. Back came Elliott Hartley and Adam Garmson for the rested Brad Welding and Eshan Greer. With new signing Jake Bram and the returning Joe Burroughs on the bench.
Tividale started the better and could have gone ahead in the second minute when a Darragh Bustin shot after some neat interplay between him and Garmson failed to really trouble Casual’s keeper Joe Williams. Romehl Seraton had Casuals first effort after 5 minutes, but Tividale keeper Peter Hawk had no problem in dealing with it.
Tividale were the more attacking side in the early exchanges and again a neat passing move in the 13th minute, this time between Hartley and Garmson set up Jason Woods for an effort that he could not keep on target. Garmson then saw his 18th minute shot saved by Williams and two minutes later he was through again from a quick throw, but this time failed to hit the target.
As in the home encounter 10 days ago Casuals were always dangerous when they were in possession and Josh Parker should have tested Hawk on 28 minutes but fired well wide. Garmson completed his hat trick of missed chances in the 30th minute when he was again put through by Bustin but again Williams would not be beaten. In the 40th minute Curtis Cocking then released Hartley into a one-on-one position with Williams, but the full back’s first touch was too heavy, and the keeper was able to get to the ball.
Tividale finished the half with one last effort. A Bustin corner was cleared back out to him he played it short to Hartley whose initial shot was cleared back out to Garmson, but his shot was saved by Williams
Half Time: – Wolverhampton Casuals 0-0 Tividale
The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute of the game when Garmson out in a wide right position sent a superb pass with the outside of his left boot behind the Casuals defence to an unmarked Hartley cutting in from the left wing and the full back just rolled the ball back past Williams and into the bottom left-hand corner of his net. Casuals hit back 5 minutes later when Tividale failed to clear a Reis Mahey corner and Anthony Smith provided the touch that looped the ball over Hawk and into the back of the net.
Casuals had a great chance to turn the game on its head two minutes later, but Hawk did well to turn a Smith shot away for a corner. Casuals were now having their best sustained spell of the game and Parker again lashed his effort wide in 63rd minute before and possibly against the run of play in that 10-minute spell, Tividale regained their lead in the 67th minute with again Garmson the provider finding Bustin who’s shot beat Williams.
Tividale made all their three substitutions in an 8-minute spell either side of their second goal and one of them Cameron Milne had two great chances in the 77th minute. The first cannoning back to him off a Casuals defender and he put the rebound wide. Another substitute Ethan Muckley found Bustin with a great cross in the 80th minute but the forward headed over.
While the game stayed at 2-1 Casuals were always in with a chance to send the tie into penalties and their forward James Thompson could have done that in the 81st minute but again he shot wide. Then Hawk provided an excellent save on 90 minutes. The game was finally put to bed in the 92nd minute when Milne finished off a lovely move from 6 yards involving Buckley and Hartley.
