Tividale 1-0 Shawbury United
Edwards put’s Tividale in the bag
As normal games against lower ranked oppositions have all the possibilities of an upset and going down to 10 men in the 44th minute made it very likely. But the Tividale of the last couple of weeks are made of sterner stuff and on chances it should have been a lot more comfortable.
Tividale made four changes to the side that gained a point against Stourport swifts 11 days ago. Zac Kourouyianni, Kamol Campbell. Jake Lloyd and Ewan Edwards coming in for Callum Gillies, Nashawn Blake, Max Morris, and Joe Hawkins.
Tividale’s Evans was a constant menace to the Shawbury defence down the right throughout the first half and but for last ditch defending and some smart keeping from Shawbury custodian Max Williams the home side would have wrapped this game up at half time. Williams did exceptionally well to tip a thunderbolt of a shot from Dom Dell onto the bar in the 24th minute. 15 minutes later and Shawbury’s Cody Rimmer gets through on goal, but Tividale keeper Louis Connor denies him with a fine save,
Right at the end of the half the gam hit a new level. On 44 minutes Tividale’s James Douglas was shown a red card for what the referee interpreted as violent conduct. His explanation was that Douglas raised his hands to an opposition player. An action after a challenge that Douglas does not recall and there seemed to be no reaction from the opposition player.
The dismissal was the spark that Tividale needed and in the 3rd minute of added time Evans again broke down the right but instead of cutting the ball back into the danger area, he drilled the ball past Williams at his near post and into the back of the net.
Half Time:-Tividale 1-0 Shawbury United
Throughout the second half Shawbury with the extra man became more of a goal threat, but the Tividale back line was fairly comfortable in containing them and the hard-working Dell could have extended the home sides lead on a couple of occasions.
But in the end, it is the home side that make it through to the next round and the draw gave Tividale an away trip to Cambridgeshire where we will face Wisbech Town on Saturday 21st October.
