Stourport Swifts 0-4 Tividale
A tale of two halves, Both good
After the postponement of Saturday’s game. Tividale were soon back on the field with a visit to Stourport Swifts in the Midland Football League Cup. Once again, we were not sure of what performance we were going to witness but anything near the effort of a week ago would be welcome. Well, we got that and then some.
Tividale started brightly, and almost went ahead after just 5 minutes when from a Swifts fee kick Tividale broke and Swifts keeper Jamie Emery turned Dom Dell’s shot around the post. A minute later and Ryan Snape caught Jim Hanson in possession on the edge of the box and his snap shot flew narrowly passed the post.
Swifts first chance fell on 18 minutes to the evergreen Lee Chilton, but he fired wide, then Tividale keeper Tim Beech comfortably caught Swifts skipper Drew Canavan’s shot.
Emery then saved well at the feet of Snape before Dell put Tividale ahead on 25 minutes When a Callum Gillie free kick caused all sorts of problems in the Swifts box and Dell reacted quickly and fired in from close range. Dell doubled his and Tividale’s lead on 31 minutes when finished off an incisive break down the right to convert Ewan Edwards’ cross.
Ethan Tivey saw his shot saved by keeper Tim Beech in a rare Swifts attack in the 33rd minute, and Swifts best chance then followed 6 minutes later but Lee Chilton’s point blank effort was also saved by Beech.
A minute before the break and Ryan Snape then put the visitors firmly in control when he fired in a peach of a free kick into the top corner from 20 yards after Edwards had been brought down.
Half Time:- Stourport Swifts 0-3 Tividale
Swifts made a number of changes at half time, putting on a number of their “rested players” and there was a marked improvement from the home side. Tividale then saw keeper Beech sent off for handling outside his area in the 53rd minute but luckily normal keeper Louis Conner was on the bench, and he came on in place of Snape.
Tividale were now having to defend as Swifts made the extra man tell and Canavan had a golden chance on 59 minutes but shot wide. There then followed close misses from Harland, Chilton, and Bailey but the ten men of Tividale held firm.
With 7 minutes to go Tividale’s tremendous rear guard effort was rewarded when Cody Mullen rounded off a fine Tividale performance to make it 4-0 when he fired home from a Taylor Townsend cross.
For only the second time this season Tividale enjoyed back to back wins. Albeit two cup matches, both were against exceptionally good sides and with this work rate things can only get better going forward.
