Lichfield City 2-3 Tividale
Tividale stunning and determined
This was going to be a severe test of our 10-match unbeaten run against one of the top sides in the division and away at their home ground.
Once again Tividale rung out the changes for this mid-week cup competition. In came Peter Hawk, Brad Welding, Ryan Snape, Jamie Hunt, Malcolm Melvin, Cody Mullan and Lewis Taylor Boyce. There was also a debut for new signing David Solademi registered the day before.
The early chances fell to Lichfield and the first of the game fell to Jack Edwards who after being played through by Max Dixon dragged his shot wide. Then from a Luke Childs cross Dixon headed wide.
Tividale’s first chance was after a neat one two with Melvin and Taylor Townsend, ended with Melvin’s shot just going wide.
Lichfield took the lead on 23 minutes. From a Child cross found Jamie Elkes at the back post. His shot took a heavy deflection off Tividale defender Matt Hunt and wrong-footed Hawk in goal, who could only watch the ball trickle past him and into the back of the net.
Tividale’s Jamie Hunt then went close, when from a Townsend corner he tried an overhead kick that just cleared the bar. On 28 minutes Tividale were level. Townsend started a run from the halfway line, beating two Lichfield defenders before lashing home from 20 yards beyond Lichfield’s keeper James Beeson’s despairing dive.
Elkes then headed a Edwards corner wide before a Snape effort just cleared Beeson’s crossbar. On 40 minutes Tividale took the lead. Snape found Townsend and without the winger breaking stride he drove home a worldie with Beeson rooted to his line.5 minutes later and on the stroke of half time Tividale won a corner on the edge of the Lichfield penalty area. Up stepped Welding and not to be out done by Townsends two crackers, scored with his trademark left footed as he bent the ball over the wall and again poor Beeson was again just a spectator as it went past him and into the top corner
Half Time: – Lichfield City 1-3 Tividale
Tividale had a great chance to extend their lead in the 48th minute, when Mullan’s cross just evaded Snape at Lichfield’s back post.
The home side made it 3-2 on 50 minutes when a Child cross was not dealt with and it reached Elkes at the back post who side footed home his and Lichfield’s second.
Tividale went down to 10 men on 52 minutes when Jamie Hunt received his second yellow card of the game. Naturally the man advantage buoyed the home side and a Tom Hurdman cross was met by Cameron Dunn but his header went straight into Hawk’s midriff and Dunn had another chance that he put wide.
Childs then went on an amazing run beating three Tividale players before pulling the ball back to substitute Kyle Patterson but his shot was brilliantly saved by Hawk with his feet. As time ran out fellow substitute Sam Fitzgerald hit a dipping shot that Hawk could only parry away and Jack Downing completed the clearance.
Before the end Tividale’s Jakob Burroughs and Lichfield’s Patterson (the two substitute number 15’s) both received straight red cards for violent conduct after some pushing and shoving near the Lichfield dug out. It looked like handbags but the officials saw different
As the game went into injury time, from a Lichfield corner that even Beeson went up for, Fitzgerald cross was met by Dan Lomas who’s goal bound header was somehow blocked by Matt Hunt and cleared the crossbar
