Round One
Tuesday 22nd October 2019
Sutton Coldfield Town 0-1 Tividale
Tividale make the 2nd Round at last
For the first time in our recent history we actually won a Birmingham Senior Cup tie. Admittedly we have lost to West Brom a couple of times amongst those defeats but a win is nice.
It may have been asking a lot to expect the lads to produce the effort and quality that they did on Saturday in the 1-1 draw with Coventry United but they in fact raised the bar another level against a side at a division above us and we for once never looked out of place on their 3G pitch.
Tividale was able to welcome back Darragh Bustin, Lewis Probert and Dan Smith to the side that did so well on Saturday and also gave a debut to new signing Joe Burroughs. In a game of very few chances they had to be at it from the off. They could have actually gone behind after just 4 minutes when a brilliant run down the right flank by Vinnie Dwyer ended with a cross that Sutton forward Reece Gibson met with an acrobatic volley, only to see it graze the outside of the post. Tividale were ahead three minutes later when a Bustin ball into the box looked to have been flicked on by Probert but Tyree Clarke may have had the last touch, diverting it past Sutton keeper James Harrison.
The rest of the half was completely devoid of chances with neither keeper really worked. The best coming from Suttons Edwin Ahenkorah but Tividale keeper Lewis Connor saved comfortably.
Half Time: Sutton Coldfield Town 0-1 Tividale
The second period was just as tight as the first and it wasn’t until the 70th minute that Sutton had the first real chance. From a Tividale corner Sutton broke through Romario Rose but with just Connor to beat he got it all wrong and lifted his shot over the bar. A couple of minutes later and Sutton substitute Charlie Stanton saw his shot turned away by Connor as they tried to exert pressure on the well organised Tividale defence.
In the end Tividale saw the game out and with the 1-0 win moved into the 2nd Round.
