Uttoxeter Town vs Tividale

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Tuesday 5th March 2024
Uttoxeter Town 2- 2 Tividale

At last little shoots

For the first time in a while Tividale at least got something they deserved out of a game and on another day could have taken all the three points on offer. But we will take the point and hope to build on it.

With the turnaround of players over the last couple of weeks, manager Stuart How only made the three changes from the side that went down to Hednesford Town in the Walsall senior Cup a week ago. In came Cain Smith, Joe Burroughs and Tarryl Davis replacing Jakob Burroughs, Ryan Snape and Tom Cole.

Neither half was a great watch with the only difference was the second had the goals.

In a pretty uneventful first half. The only real goal threats came from defensive mistakes. A Jack Pearlman header back to keeper Louis Connor did not have the legs and Town’s forward Paul Hughes intercepted it but his shot lacked any power and Connor fielded it comfortably’

Tividale’s Jack Till then tried his luck with a snap shot that went wide and on 21 minutes Ewan Edwards whipped a cross across the Town 6 yard box that was just begging for a touch. Edwards was causing the Town defence all sorts of problems and another one of his crosses was scrambled clear by the Town defence in the 33rd minute.

Half Time:- Uttoxeter Town 0-0 Tividale

Tividale started the second half the best way possible when on their first attack, Edwards was hauled down in the area. Till stepped up and in the 47th minute continued his run of goals by slamming the spot kick into the roof of the net.

6 minutes later and Town were level. A ball into the Tividale area and everyone including Connor seemed to miss it and Tom Thorley had the simple task of turning the ball home. A minute later and a Callum Gillies free kick whistled across the face of the Town goal.

Despite the visitors pressure Town went ahead on the hour. Again Tividale found a way to shoot themselves in the foot. On the hour mark the ball is needlessly given away in the middle of the park. In an attempt to win the ball back the ball breaks to Town’s Haydn Brown and he races away and beats Connor in a one to one situation.

Tividale now threw everything at the home side and in the 67th minute a Gillies corner is scrambled over the line for Tividale’s second, Till’s second and most importantly the equalising goal.

The rest of the game saw Tividale with a lot of possession but unable to break through a resolute Uttoxeter defence and at the other end they looked dangerous when they were allowed to counter. But in the end a share of the points was how it ended.

Tividale vs Hednesford Town

Walsall Senior Cup
2nd Round
Tuesday 27th February 2024
Tividale 3-6 Hednesford Town

Tividale go out fighting.

Tividale bowed out of the Walsall Senior Cup but can be proud of their effort against a side who play at two levels above. On a very heavy pitch and a cold, wet miserable night, both sides produced an all action encounter and although over the 90 minutes Hednesford were the better side the 3 goal margin definitely flattered them.

With a number of players available for this game that were not last week, boss Stuart How was able to rest all three of last week’s centre back’s and switch to their normal back four. Also replaced was Dominic Dell who had signed for Shifnal Town the day before. So, in came Tom Cole, Ryan Snape and Jack Till also making his return was Jack Pearlman signed from Lye Town, eight years after he last played in the yellow of Tividale.

Hednesford showed their intent to attack in the first few minutes and after just three minutes Danny Edwards went on a slaloming run that was stopped by good defending deep into the Tividale penalty area. Tividale’s Jakob Burroughs then tried an effort from range that went wide on 6 minutes.

On 11 minutes Tividale were ahead, A Hednesford back pass is under hit and Jack Till nips in to take the ball around the keeper and roll the ball into the empty net. Hednesford then stepped up the pressure and in the 20th minute Joe Morley fired over after some great individual work to create the chance. Then Michael Williams hit an absolute screamer on 29 minutes that flashed past Louis Connor’s far post.

That Williams effort was just a sighter because 3 minutes later, Tividale fail to lose down the full back and he hits an absolute rocket into the back of the net from about 30 yards to bring Hednesford level.

Then came two goals in a minute. First on 45 minutes Tividale were back ahead  Till scores his second of the night with an effort from the edge of the box which beat Hednesford keeper Ryan Brown and settled into the back of the net. Then Hednesford equalise straight from the kick off in the 46th minute, Williams is allowed to walk through to the box unchallenged beat two players and smashes one past Louis Connor who had no chance.

Half Time:- Tividale 2-2 Hednesford Town

Tividale started much the better in the second period and pressed the Hednesford defence but were behind after 52 minutes when from a Hednesford corner Callum Mendez-Smith bundled the ball home. Connor then did well to save a fierce Dann Edwards free kick on the hour mark. Two minutes later and Tividale were back on level terms again. A tremendous Callum Gilles cross from the left flank was met by Snape and he hits a first time shot past Brown which goes in off the post.

The game was now up for grabs, and it was Hednesford who edged ahead again on 70 minutes. A missed tackle costs Tividale after the they had lost the ball in the Hednesford half and Morley on the counter attack advances into the box and hits one into the back of the net.

Tividale were now throwing everything at the visitors in an attempt to get back in the game. But Hednesford break in the 85th minute and substitute Joe Thompson is left one on one with Connor, and he hits the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.

With the home side dead on their feet, Thompson made the most of the space in the Tividale area to net his second and Hednesford’s 6th in the 87th minute.

Tividale vs Lye Town

Birmingham Senior Cup
3rd Round
Tuesday 20th February 2024
Tividale 1-2 Lye Town

The cup’s run ends

At the third attempt, this game was actually played. On a as expected a very heavy pitch this was never going to be a game for the purist’s. And although the home side put up another battling performance the result was that again Tividale had nothing to show for it.
The Birmingham Senior Cup rules state that only players registered on the date of the original fixture was eligible to play and as a number of players had left since the original date, Stuart How had a bit of a headache with the team selection, so much so that he had to switch to a back three, play our full backs as a couple of wing backs and could only name two subs, one of those was coach Jamie Oliver.
Lye had the first chance when a shot skimmed the base of the post and clear. With both teams struggling with the conditions underfoot it was the 20th minute for the next chance and it went to Tividale. Ewan Edwards was sent away down the left flank and his cross found skipper Zac Kourouyianni playing in a right wing back role. But Kourouyianni could not find the target with his shot.
Lye went ahead in the 29th minute when once again they try to overplay in the middle of the park, lose possession and the ball is whipped into Ben Billingham who fires home. The rest of the half just petered out apart from some interesting and weird decisions from the man in the middle
Half Time:- Tividale 0-1 Lye Town
Again the half just seemed to amble along with nothing to report about, that was until the 60th minute, when an off the ball incident between Lye’s Nathan Kabeya and Tividale’s Jakob Burroughs resulted originally in two red cards and both teams reduced to ten, but the ref then changes his mind and downgrades the Tividale red to a yellow
The dismissal only seem to have urged Lye on and the 10 men doubled their lead 6 minutes later when a Billingham free kick was met by defender Ryan Bridgewater and his thunderous header gave  Louis Connor in goal no chance.
The goal prompted Tividale into a more attacking force and on 78 minutes, substitute Nashawn Blake tested Lye keeper Ben Newey with a rasping drive that the keeper did well to hold onto. A minute later and Joe Hawkins headed a Callum Gillies corner wide.
On 84 minutes Max Morris continued his run of goals when what looked like a short free kick was rolled to him and from about 30 yards he drilled the ball past Newey and into the back of the net. Edwards then forced Newey into a good save in the 85th minute, but although Tividale pressed in those closing minutes Lye held on and go through to the next round where they will meet Aston Villa.
