Match Preview – Highgate United

THE FACTS

Midland Football League
Premier Division
Highgate United v Tividale
Saturday 23rd November 2019

Due to the awful weather for a lot of teams it will feel like month’s since they last played and for the other’s unless you have a 3G pitch they would have played in sporadic fashion.  So for a lot of teams including us, these games coming up now will be like pre season fixtures.

It has been a mixed start for Highgate, starting the season by beating title contenders Romulus and Selston. But since then their form has dipped and with it has come a string of defeats. Including a 3-1 defeat at The Beeches. But at the turn of the month they handed form side Heather St John’s their first defeat of the season. So we are well aware that on their day they are capable of beating anyone

THE HISTORY

We have had some great games against Highgate. Who can forget Karl Edwards last minute headed winner in our MFL championship winning season. Or Harvey Walkers brilliant winning goal deep into injury time to complete a 3-2 FA Cup win after going 2-0 down after just 10 minutes.

All our games in recent years have been close affairs games with the prolific Lei Brown hitting the winner at Tythe Barn Lane in the 2016-2017 league campaign after Nathan Jones had cancelled out McCauley Manning’s opener.

While the game at The Beeches ended all square. First Orrin Pendley was first to react and turned the ball home when when a Marco Adaggio shot came back off the cross bar. But Dan Smith equalised just before half time. That man Manning then put Highgate back in front but Elliott Hartley levelled again and earned Tividale a share of the points.

In the game at Tividale a couple of month’s ago were we ran out 3-1 winners. The goals came from Dan Smith, Luke Carter and Brad Welding with that man Lei Brown replying for Highgate.

Tividale overcome 10 man Stratford

There will always be the thinking that the 37th minute sending off of FC Stratford keeper Luis Sone changed the game as Stratford was 1-0 up at the time. Truth is as good as Stratford were Tividale up to then had missed their fair share of chances.

Match Preview – FC Stratford

THE FACTS

Midland Football League
League Cup Round 2
Tividale FC v FC Stratford
Tuesday 5th November 2019
Kick off at 7:45pm

It was disappointing that once again our weekend fixture was called off. Even so when you hope a little break in the weather may give us a chance only for us to get torrential rain for 3 hours and give the referee no chance but to call it off. So let’s hope we have a let up in the weather and this game goes ahead

Our opponents FC Stratford are currently in Division Two of the MFL and also come into this game on the back of a weekend postponement. In fact they have not played since 19th October and a 7-1 win against Lane Head FC. They also knocked out Division One side G N P Sports in the previous round of this competition.

THE HISTORY

The two teams have never met and so both of us are going into the unknown.
