Tividale 1-3 1874 Northwich
Better, but no points.
After the midweek defeat against Casuals there was no time to ponder on it as the next fixture was just around the corner and it was against new boy’s to the league 1874 Northwich, who had stated the season well and were sitting unbeaten in second place. So, a repeat of Tuesday’s performance and we could be in some serious trouble.
Once again Phil Rann rang out the changes, in came the returning Jordon Sangha and Ethan Delaney. Luke Postle also started after his impressive substitute appearance and Brandon Mossini also came in for the injured Sam Bratt-Wyton. Jamie Holder, Aon Mohammed Abbas, and Mario Mendez also missed out on the starting line-up.
The game started with both teams Tividale being cautious and it wasn’t until the 6th minute when 1874 had their first chance when a Tividale mix up allowed Liam Fitzpatrick to get a shot off but Ethan Hawkes took it comfortably. Delaney then made 1874 keeper Michael Shorthouse get down and make a sharp save in the 11th minute, turning the ball around the post.
On 24 minutes Fitzpatrick again fired wide and 8 minutes later Delaney sent an effort whizzing past Shorthouse’s far post. That was the last effort of note in a half where both teams cancelled each other out.
Half Time:- Tividale 0-0 1874 Northwich
Mossini started the half with a great run down the left before finding Alfie Higgs with a fine pass and his shot was brilliantly saved by Shorthouse diving full stretch to turn it around the post.
On 49 minutes a Tividale corner failed to beat the first 1874 defender and they cleared up to Jacson Coppack but he shot over the Tividale bar. A minute later and Tividale’s Ryan Piggott did well to hold off his marker but could not hit the target. Three minutes later and the home side were ahead. Postle beat his man on the bye line, fired in a cross that 1874 defender Mark Jones could only turn into his own net.
Tividale were now the side asking all the questions and should have extended their lead on the hour mark when only some frantic defensive blocks denied both Higgs and Sangha. On 63 minutes came possibly the turning point in the game. A lofted ball sent Piggott away, as Shorthouse came out Piggott clipped the ball past him and looked to have a tap into an empty net but the referee decided to blow for a high foot a decision that incensed everyone involved with Tividale as Shorthouse was a good yard away from Piggott. 2-0 could have been a game changer at that point.
On 70 minutes and 1874 were back in the game, when Mark Reed finds space in the box and hits it into the far side netting. Hawkes did well to deny Fitzpatrick with a good save as 1874 pressed for an equaliser and it came on 79 minutes Tividale allow Josh Goodwin to get in a low cross and Fitzpatrick is there to see it home.
With 5 minutes to go a smart bit of play by Delaney gave him room to whip in a cross that Postle met on the volley but it went straight at Shorthouse who held on to it. With Tividale pushing forward they won a corner deep into injury time . Once again it is cleared and 1874 and with keeper Hawkes up for the corner only Eddie Rann is back and he fails to control the ball and Joshua Oultram nick’s it and is away with Tividale’s defence racing back Oultram unselfishly passes to Reed who taps the ball into an empty net.
Tividale had the last decent chance but Eddie Rann could not keep his shot down in the 96th minute and it cleared Shorthouse’s bar.
