Birmingham Senior Cup
2nd Round
Tuesday 28th November 2023
Tividale 1-0 Walsall

The cup’s run continues

Tividale continued their cup run’s with another excellent performance from the squad, with this being their 6th cup game in the last 8 and progression in their 4th competition.

Once again Stuart rang out the changes from Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Stone Old Alleynians, with Tim Beech, Cameron East, Kamol Campbell, Jakob Burroughs, Max Morris and Lewis Taylor-Boyce in for Louis Connor, Joe Burroughs, Callum Gillies, James Douglas, Dominic Dell, and Cody Mullan.

In a very quiet first half where both sides were fairly cautious, there were very limited chances, the best of them both coming from the visitors with both Will Uchenna and Jack Earing failing to find the target.

Half Time:-Tividale 1-0 Walsall

The second half was a different affair chances wise as Tividale stepped up their game and Ewan Evans was the main instigator. First after 47 minutes, going down under a challenge in the Walsall area that the referee waived away all of Tividale’s appeals. Then he was foiled by a brilliant last ditch tackle from Walsall defender Rolin Menayase.

On the hour, Cameron East then tested Walsall’s keeper George Barrett with a shot that he handled comfortably. Then on 64 minutes Tividale took the lead. Keeper Beech, mishits his clearance, but however it turned out to be a great ball as a Dell flick on into the path of Edwards who was left one on one with Barrett and he slid the ball under the advancing keeper.

The final 25 minutes was all Walsall as they pushed forward for an equaliser. First a Piers Juliff cross into the box had the Tividale defence scrambling to clear. Then Beech was forced to turn an effort around the post. A Dylan Thomas free kick then found Menayase, but he headed wide.

Tividale could have made the game safe with two minutes of regular time to go, when a Cain Smith shot, came back off the inside of the post. Still Walsall pressed and as the game went into injury time Beech did well to save a shot from Louie Webb and he was able to claim the ball at the second attempt after stinging shot from Thomas.

In the end after a great game of football it was a win for Tividale against a very good, young Walsall side.
