Tividale 2-1 Walsall
Let us build on this!
Based on our decent form and our previous result. Maybe a night off from league action could give the lad’s something different to concentrate on and make some amends for Saturday.
Tividale beat Lichfield City 3-2, in the previous round way back in November and it was interesting to see that of the squad of 16 that night, Cameron East, Brad Welding, Matt Hunt, Taylor Townsend, Jack Downing, Jamie Hunt, Curtis Cocking, Cody Mullan and Lewis Taylor-Boyce were no longer with us for one reason or another.
Nine out of the then squad had left. But as always Dave King and his staff had put together a squad able to compete. There was a couple of changes from Saturday with Louis Connor, David Solademi and Arman Khoshkhoo coming in for Peter Hawk, Louis Ezewele and Jakob Burroughs respectively.
A bit of good news 24 hours earlier for Tividale was the rescinding of Dan Smith’s red card
After what seemed like a lifetime waiting for a goal in previous games, Tividale were ahead after just 3 minutes. A Jack Fletcher shot was parried by Walsall keeper George Barrett into the path of Jason Wood who made no mistake from close range. Tividale continued to press and where unlucky not to double their lead on 21 minutes when a Harry Lewis free kick just cleared the cross bar
Tividale were pegged back in Walsall’s first decent chance, when from a Tividale corner Walsall cleared up to Marvellous Onabirekhanlen who when left one on one with Connor he slid the ball past him and into the back of the net.
Tividale were soon back in front though when Khoshkhoo was felled in the box in the 35th minute and Harry Lewis score from the spot.
Half Time:- Tividale 2-1 Walsall
Walsall piled on the pressure at the start of the second half looking to bring them back into the game. but the Tividale defence were holding firm. As the visitors seemed to tire Tividale began to take the upper hand and a great Khoshkhoo run and shot on the hour mark had Barrett scrambling to get the ball away after parrying the initial shot.
In the 65th minute Barrett had to be alert when diving at the feet of Fletcher as he beared down on goal and at the other end a Onabirekhanlen header on 71 minutes was touched over his bar by Connor.
Khoshkhoo was again the Walsall tormentor with 5 minutes to go when again after more great work his cross flashed across the Walsall penalty area but no one could get a touch to it.
And that is how it ended with Tividale now facing Chasetown away in the semi-final on Tuesday 28th March
